Wheelbarrow01:
In the town where my bach is, there are about 100 permanent residents but about 400 holiday homes, all of which have access to fibre at the gate. It seems a shame to me that there is an expensive network in that location that is currently very under utilised (less than 20%).
I noticed the same in Hahei over Christmas when walking from the beach to the shop. Lots of little green pegs with black chorus microduct attached at the boundary. The uptake seems to be very low, only three out of the 25-30 pegs I walked past did not have the microduct attached. Personally very glad Whenuakite exchange has had GPON equipment installed, as it reduced the price of our POA rural install by about $70k, but it the low uptake will mean a long period of return for Chorus.
Will be interesting to see if our booking change once fibre is installed, we tend to be booked out late December and all of January in any case.
Maybe someone from Spark read this as they have this offering now: Portable Broadband.

It's 4G and not fibre though...
