My install happened in 3 steps. First a guy scoped the job, then the trenching team turned up, finally the termination crew finished it off and it was working that same day. There was some weeks in between each step along with 2 lengthy cancelation/reschedules. Civtec was the contractor. It was in the middle of the worst of the Covid madness so hopefully things are better now.

How did I sped the process up you ask?... by running the cable under the house myself. A dirty job but I got it done my way, entry and exit where I wanted. I'll never really know how much time it saved or extra steps/Civtec appointment visits. I agreed to do it, tech gave me the cable, done!

I'd imagine placing an order for a new fibre connection directly with Chorus as a terrible idea to 'speed things up'.

You will go into exactly the same queue at Chorus for the techs to install the fibre and ONT in your house. When that is complete then you will place an order with an ISP, and they need to provision their end AND place a provisioning order with Chorus, giving you a few more days delay. If you place the order with an ISP at the start you can at least get both the physical install and the layer 2 provisioning happening in parallel.

I see your point. A few days wait isn't too big a deal for me, but sadly I'm still waiting for my fibre install. It has been an absolute shambles between Chorus and UCG - missed appointments, multiple reschedulings, and now apparently there are zero techs available in my area, so my late Feb scope date is still only a "holding" booking while they try to organise more techs.

Wow, that is bad. Sorry to hear that and hope you have a suitable alternative to use until it is sorted.

Another reason I would suggest to not place an order directly with Chorus (or the 3 other LFCs depending on your area).

If timelines start to slip you are now just one person that Chorus is obligated to get the order completed. If placed through an ISP then Chorus is obligated to that company to meet SLAs etc with monthly operations meetings with account managers etc.

Again sorry to hear of your delays and hopefully resolved soon.

You may get lucky with a drive around and a chat with one of the techs.....I am in no way saying they can and will assist.

But one of ours was done for a box of beers about a month before the available date.

I finally (after another cancellation or two!) got my fibre installed 2 days ago. I was able to get an ISP to provision a connection within 24hrs after the Chorus tech completed the install, so the concern around going direct to Chorus vs via ISP didn't end up being a big deal, at least in this aspect. Would it have been faster if I'd gone via an ISP in the first place?  Maybe. I guess we'll never know for sure!

Glad you finally got across the line, enjoy that fibre connection!
