In my personal opinion the current situation is..

Quality of service isn't good enough (too many customers not enough peak time bandwidth):
- Xnet, Slingshot, Orcon and Vodafone (it's debatable whether you would include Orcon and Vodafone in this group but I do!)

Plans are too expensive for 30GB+ type users:
- Iconz, Maxnet, Actrix, Inspire

If you also take out the small no name ISP's that basically leaves (you could put Orcon and Vodafone in this group if you were feeling generous):
- Snap, Telstra, Telecom

So..

Telecom ADSL Pro, 40GB, $79.95, after cap $20 per GB (wtf at the after cap Telecom)

Telecom ADSL Intermediate (Business plan), 40GB, $89.95, after cap $4 per GB (I made the prices inc gst for comparison to the others)

foobar: So, since you got 2 MB/s down from San Francisco, I think this means that the 300 KB/s you observed is intermittent? Your international speeds seemed to be quite alright in this particular test?

Definately an improvement from my earlier tests. I was testing at various times over the weekend and several times on Monday and always got a sub 500kb/s result. I performed another test just now (https://www.speedtest.net/result/437110106.png) and the result was acceptable. However, Xnet's response has not been and I've had x10 more support from you then their staff (thanks btw). 


I've spent some time browsing here and I can see that I'm not the only one disappointed with their support. This experience is compounded by the way they've responded to my support enquiries in the past. The worst was several months ago when I was on the 'Torrent' plan and had my connection effectively lock up after 2am. The company had obviously over subscribed their service and were not doing anything to fix it (they told me I could live with it or go back to the HSI plan). Add this to the lack of support I've received this week and I'm just not going to continue paying for a substandard service.

Thanks for the info - I'd missed the Snap Pro option so will make some enquiries. Unfortunatly both Telstra and Orcon can't outdo the discounts I get from Telecom for my home line so their deals offer less benefits. The main consideration with a new provider is fair pricing = decent speeds. If I have to cap the usage for quality of service then so be it... although WTF indeed at that Telecom rate!!!

I'm with TelstraClear ADSL in Auckland and I understand what you mean by flexibility with the usage, it's what I like about the offerings from TCL, Orcon and XNET how you won't always be bent if you don't use any, or use a lot of usage in any given month.

I've got an international calling plan that is $25 a month for 100 hours of major international destination calling (includes UK), that gives me a $10 discount off my line rental charge ($41.65)

And I have the PDQ Max (FS/FS) with the 10GB packs for $44 I think it is, you just pay $11.95 for each 10GB pack that you use.

Just over $130 a month so I'm pleased :>

Check out Orcon and TelstraClear if youre after performance no doubt.
