I remote to a pc in Perth , Australia and the owner just upgraded their fibre speed to "1gbit" its gets about 920 down, and a useless 40 mbits up speed, So its pretty near unusable for remote desktop usage.

After the CHCH earthquake we were running 20 odd users off an ADSL2 connection with RDP which was fine until someone attempted to print. I don't think that's you're issue.

40Mbps is plenty of speed for a Remote Desktop connection.

Only if noone else is using the connection for anything else.

I just found this on what is promised for September 2025, OMG!

"NBN Co will accelerate its popular nbn Home Fast wholesale product from 100/20 Megabits per second (Mbps) to deliver five times faster wholesale download speeds of 500/50 Mbps1.

It will triple the wholesale download speed and double the upload speed of its nbn Home Superfast wholesale product, accelerating it from 250/25 Mbps to 750/50 Mbps1.

And it will double the wholesale upload speed of the nbn Home Ultrafast wholesale product from 500 to ~1000/50 Mbps to ~1000/100 Mbps1.

I use Anydesk to my inlaws in Las Vegas, they are on 900/30 G.Fast and it works fine

you have some other issue

Yep as others have mentioned something else is at play, I regularly have to deal with RDP sessions over satellite circuits that have 5-8Mb/s shared amoungst many and with the latency a GeoStationary bird brings, works fine, and oftern have sessions that last many hours.

I'm Using tight VNC and ripple remote as the client. Teamviewer is very usable but i hate using that

We are getting off topic here, various VNC flavors can require MTU of over 1500 which I think is causing your problems, not actually the speed of the connection itself.

Launching from 1st June, with the rollout throughout June.

50/10 will increase to 100/20
300/100 will increase to 500/100

Without wanting to put down any upgrade, I would have thought 80/40 would be better than 100/20 for the current 50/10.

I think 100/20 being the anchor service speed set by legislation a few years back would placate any concerns around recent CPI price increases and keep them on side politically and with the public/consumer.

Remember this was supposed to be the price back in 2011...

They will be looking to differentiate more symmetrical speeds to their more premium priced "Business Fibre" concept alongside faster restoration times...
