My opinion: If you're spending that much money on a driveway, you don't want chorus coming in after and potentially cutting across it.

Disconnect your fibre, go onto a Wireless plan.

Rip up old driveway, dig out to depth the new driveway will be laid.

Organise your ISP/Chorus to do the ONT move and trench/duct the new fibre run where it needs to be.

Reconnect fibre.

Lay new driveway.

Tidy, and where you want it.

I agree :-) I'm just trying to work out my options before we get too far in to the build process and then realise I've run out of time etc. I presume chorus will use ducting if laid to their spec? It would be easier to disconnect and then for the builder to lay the ducting but then it also depends on the sequence of drivewasy removal vs. construction and whether it gets removed early and graded out but left open while they do other works to avoid trashing the finish...

I’m not sure how applicable our experience will be for you- we shifted our ONT within our Christchurch house during a renovation last year. I reached out directly to Enable to request the fibre line be shifted and reconnected, and was told off the record that it was best to put any such request in through our ISP. Apparently Enable charge the ISP significantly less than Joe Bloggs who liaise directly with them. I’m not sure if Chorus operates the same way but something to consider.

I suspect it probably is similar and I'd prefer to deal with my ISP as I'm hoping to get continuity of service via their wireless connection without the need for a new contract.

We sure will! Just make sure there are no sharp bends (sweeping over 900mm) and a draw tape is left inside. So that the Fibre cable can be hauled through without sticking or kinking.

You can also order installation of telecommunications greenpipe through our move network form.

Follow up question if I may - currently the termination point is attached to the outside of the brick base with a hole drilled through to the inside where the fibre is then routed to the ONT.

There is more than 1m from the ground to the underside of the floor and I was wondering whether it was possible to get the ETP mounted on the inside of the brick base with the conduit coming up in the cavity so that it is fully weather protected and protected from accidental damage (it currently runs up the outside of the base within the driveway area). It would be easily accessible to any technician due to the door opening being adjacent and it would allow the driveway to be relaid without the need to have a conduit poking out of the ground and concreted around.

I couldn't say for certain sorry. I'm not sure if i am even picturing the situation right, perhaps a picture might help? But my gut says probably not given you speak of putting the conduit through a cavity. Chorus don't do installs in wall cavities due to the difficult nature and likelihood of causing damage.

What you probably need, is to place the request, get a tech on site and discuss with them directly what you want and see what they can do/accommodate. My personal experience has always been good when I've worked with the tech to determine exactly how they will run the cable, but i appreciate that 3 examples is not exactly a huge sample size! ^Richard

My understanding is Chorus always want the ETP accessible from the outside of the property. This allows them to blow new fibre through to your ETP and splice it there (without needing to enter the building), if something happens on the route between the splitter and your house.

The connections on the street are just press-fit microduct, not fibre splices, and there's no provision for splicing in them.

Having the duct come up inside the foundation then enter the back of the ETP is perhaps technically possible but not preferred as it's much harder to maintain the bend radius.
