Kordia hopes to award a contract to install the cable in 2010. So i'm assuming after the contract is awarded installation would start straight away. It is going to compete with the southern cross cable that telecom partly owns. I'm not sure from the article if the cable is going from nz to australia then from australia to the united states or from nz to the united states directly. Hopefully kordia would be able to tell us later on how much savings broadband customers can make by their isp using this cable and how much data caps will be, if any.

How long would installation take? 1 year?

The laying down of the cabling will take around a month. The consultation process in scheduled to finish by May 2010.
