Hi I recently moved into an apartment block on the parnell/newmarket border. I signed up for a naked ADSL2+ connection and had it setup within a couple of weeks. Worked fine for two days (good speeds (8m/1m) no disconnects). Then I couldn't get DSL sync at all, they gave me a new modem, same thing happened. had a tech out twice saying there were no issues to be found and the building cabling was fine. both times they came the connection worked fine again for two days after-wards and stopped again.

At the moment I can't get on the net before 8pm, my DSL light flashes continuously. after 8pm I will get dropped off about every 5 minutes, and it can take up to 30 minutes to connect again. I have seen my line attenuation up around 70dB, at the moment its looking good 45 down, 25 up, with 12db S/N but still get frequent disconnects and very slow speeds (100k/200k).

I went to another ISP who said I was out of zone for broadband and that was probably why it wasn't working, TNZ say I'm within range though. the tech who came out said I was so far from the exchange it was no surprise it didn't work.

Anyone have suggestions on what I should try? Its not like I live out in the middle of nowhere, I live off parnell road and they have connected me to the airedale exchange.

I guess what I am really asking is, does anyone know of any ISP's/telcos that have gear closer to me.

Chances are that any other service provider is going to have their gear colocated with telecom so you're unlikely to get a better service that way.

To me I suspect you have a line issue, like moisture or something that gets triggered at certain times of the day, or you have some device like sky or an monitored alarm hard wired into your phone line which is causing issues (tech could have been able to spot this though). I guess with the naked DSL its hard to tell if the phone line is being affected or just the DSL.

You could try your luck with a wireless provider such as wiredcountry, might be your only hope.

maybe get your plan dropped back to ADSL1 might help with the dropouts and have them increase the downstream power output to 13db or more

Yeah I was thinkign that would be the way to go. Earlier today when it wouldnt connect I tried unslecting ADSl2 and ADSL2+ from the DSL connection protocols on the modem but that didn't work. As its connected now I don't really want to muck around with it. Will try your suggestion though.

I live near Wellington in the middle of somewhere and the worst our line dropped was 148 times in a day counted by the router. Some days are better then others =\. I know how much it sucks. Every 2-8mins.
