Consumer has its 2010 report on ISPs available now (subscription required, or individual report access for sale).

Top ISP (100% satisfaction) was Tauranga-based EOL, but only 33 out of 15,421 respondents used it.

Following in order of satisfaction with broadband services: Actrix, Inspire, Maxnet, PlaNet, ICONZ, Snap, Tasman Solutions, Orcon, TelstraClear, WorldxChange, Kinect, Farmside, Slingshot, Woosh, Compass, Telecom/Xtra, Vodafone.

A quote from the report:

Internet on the move is increasing. Nearly a quarter of our survey respondents used their mobile phone for internet access: 58 percent of these used Vodafone; 40 percent Telecom; and 2 percent used new entrant 2degrees.

2degrees came out the best on speed and connection reliability, and not one of its 75 customers in our survey had encountered a billing problem – but it’s still early days for 2degrees.

Vodafone rated the worst on disconnections and dropouts, slower-than-expected speeds, and unexpected charges for excess usage.

2degrees came out the best on speed? t's a EDGE network, how could that be when compared to HSDPA on Telecom and Vodafone. And how could they come best when they don't have a data plan?

Strange report...

Same as last year lots of self selection bias with no actually testing done.  There's no consideration for distance from the exchange, quality of house wiring and so forth which often account for ~90% of peoples problems.

I'd say the report is useless apart from maybe the rating of customer service experience and that could have been done a lot better.  Using a tick and a circle and a cross really in those tables was really odd.

i have found personally after being duped into subscribing for 12 months that is completely useless.

Its advice are okay.
But its tests are completely pointless and meaningless - not only is it completely biased on which products it tests, the products tend to be at least 2 years old, the "tests" completely miss the point, are completely subjective, and not giving useful information for a consumer. Sometimes school kids and lay people can do better 'test's.

Probably one of the biggest shams around. I have not had one useful test result from the entire 12 months. Probably written by journalists who are at most half-knowledgeable about the stuff they write about.

The quality is really variable.. some reports/tests go into great detail and are pretty solid like some of the heat pump/air con articles last year.

Anything related to computers seems to be 'tard level though.
