yes, I have done this for several years - not once have both of the connections been down at once which is also nice. :) unless you find a naked dsl plan you like, you will be forced to pay for another landline of course.

what would be better, is having both routers connected to a linux box and multiplexing them both - double the speed and bandwidth! if i had that here - would be 28Mbps down, 2Mbps up (14Mbps each down, 1Mbps up). noice!

I use 2x Cisco 877s with HSRP so if ppp goes down on either link the other takes over in an almost seamless manner (tho MSN and so on disconnect and reconnect).

One connection is Maxnet Naked DSL 100GB and the other is Telecom Big Time. I route the stuff that goes fast over bigtime (ie youtube and most http), and everything else over Maxnet. Quite a nice combination :)

While those are some interesting solutions, especially portunus... the real question is what problems are you have lpfaint43... data usage problems or speed/performance problems?

Speed/performance problems caused by multiple users can probably be solved with one off cost of ~$100 for cheap router/gateway that runs Tomato or DD-WRT and with some sensible QoS settings.

If the problem is data usage you can look at various ways to recording everyones GB usage and get them to pay their share.

A lot cheaper than having a whole 2nd ADSL connection.
