Hey anyone else suddenly noticed a massive reduction in Windows Update performance today?

Windows Updates are served through Akamai, so it could be that your ISP's local cache is offline and you are pulling updates from a remote cache.

Also, make sure you are using your ISP's DNS servers, which will ensure that you also download from the closest cache.

maybe a lot of people are downloading sql server 2008 r2 which released today... i kno i grabbed some 12GB of iso downloads from msdn.microsoft.com :D

It looked like either snap's or some other cache inbetween dropped out - after a few machines had got thier updates, the same updates seemed to come down at their normal speed (a MB a sec or so). Except for office updates. I'm blaming a cache reset :P
