Speed tests I've seen on here show some good results except they run from a NZ site, just wondering what people's performance is like from international sites?

As a guide I've used speedtest.co.nz which tests 3 local sites (2 on orcon and 1 on ihug) and 2 overseas sites which to me show a whopper difference. I tried speaking to ihug's helpdesk about it but not very happy with their answer about distance being what slows it down.

Speed Location Hosted By
985.2 k New Zealand - Auckland Orcon Internet
828.8 k New Zealand - Auckland Ihug
1054.2 k New Zealand - Auckland Orcon Internet
180.2 k United States 1&1 Internet Inc
355.5 k United States Nibble Information Systems
Summary
Average (New Zealand): 956.1 kbps
Average (Australia): kbps
Average (International): 267.8 kbps

thats on a 1.3mb ADSL connection to ihug at 10.37pm (peak time)

I've tried the speedtest at bandwidthplace.com and a UK site I found, all around 2-300k.

ah yep, guess thats one thing ISP's are going to have trouble marketing when they talk about high speed.
The data use page on ihug breaks down national traffic and international traffic, for us at least 85% of our use is International and if its slow for everyone all around then heaps of people will complain.
That was the only issue I noticed with everyone doing speed tests from nzdsl.co.nz which is done using NZ bandwidth which of course there is tons more of than international.
