Hi. Google has recently done a change so that ips from nz appear to auto redirect google.com to google.co.nz.

Unfortunelty this means that search results have a NZ flavour rather that what the rest of the world see.

I understand that somehow I can change some settings in my network connection to change my preferred dns server.

Can someone explain in non geek how to do that please

ta
P

ps.. isp - xtra, and I have tried changing connect to vodafone data card - same result

Checked just now, and as always, if I go to Google.com, thats where I stay, no redirection for me...

ISP - Xtra

Look at this and it should be obvious if you have been there before...

otherwise, go start > control panel > network connections > your-network-connection-properties > tcp/ip properties

For the record, this is nothing new!! Google have been redirecting to local pages for a long time. The only difference between google.com and google.co.nz is you get an option to search NZ pages only. Standard google search on google.co.nz is identical to searching google.com

As Brad says, nothing new. You can always click the "Go To Google.com" link at the bottom of google.co.nz...

Cant agree with you there. Google.co.nz appears to be nz focused - search the word accommodation using "search the web" and the first page are nz accommodation sites.

For me anyway the redirect to .co.nz site has only happened in the past couple of days

tks

A worldwide search* for

Tony Hughes

Yields different results between the .com and the .co.nz versions of the search engine.

* simply those two words, with no "site:.nz' operator, and no "pages from New Zealand" button checked.

If you set your browser language to English-US or English-GB, Google seems to pick up on that and redirect you automagically to the appropriate TLD.

Thanks - it appears to have gone back to "normal" from my home xtra account. In other words, using the google search bar on both IE and Firefox is searching the .com site by default. Will be interested to see from my xtra work account on Monday what happens.

cheers
