Telecom tell me my exchange is due to be upgraded in June 2011, does this means orcon can give me better speeds once this happens or do I have to change to Xtra to get the ADSL2 speeds when exchange upgrade is complete?

Hi, all connections from all wholesale connected ISP's to the cabinet will be improved, however if you are on some legacy plan that limits to ADSL1 (there are a few still about) then your connection will top out at ADSL1 speeds. If you are on one of these older plans then I well advise you move.

What are your current speeds, maybe post your line stats including line attenuation, noise margin and sync speeds.

You will be able to get better speeds once the cabinet goes live even though your with Orcon.
You just cant be on an Orcon + plan.

Im on a cabinet through Orcon and have a 20000kbps connecton with real world download speeds well exceeding 2Mbps. Have had great customer service from them also.

So the answer is yes, you can take advantage of the cabinet upgrade even though you are with Orcon. You may need to change to a newer plan if the one your signed up to is only an ADSL plan, not adsl2.
Or if your currently on an Orcon+ plan you will need to switch to a non orcon+ plan once the cabinet goes live.

Honestly you guys need to get another ISP, I get these speeds below pretty much anytime of the day or night.

As for your line stats, well 21dB attenuation should see you getting nearly full ADSL1 speeds, and 12-14Mb/s on ADSL2+, however currently you are only getting around 6.7Mb/s, I would check you house wiring or do a basic isolation test.

As it is if your speed tests results to the Auckland Xnet server are not achieving around 70% of sync rate then talk to your ISP about it.

thanks, will try the isolation tests and see what I can find... 6 months ago i was get 4-6mbps now at 6pm i get 1.4mbps!

So either something has happened to something in the house or there are some major bottlenecks of data!

Outside of peak times Orcon is fine, but on peak its just rubbish.

I would suggest that your DSL connection and house wiring does not significantly change through out the day, but the contention on Orcons delivery into the Telecom Wholesale network probably does.
