Thursday was the final day of provisioning for my house. My phone number was ported to Snap's VoIP system. Telstra turned up to collect the cable modem and disconnect my Snap Cable. And POTS was taken off my phone line.

All in all the this whole process was really smooth. The only issue I'm having is with YouTube. If you have IPv6 enabled the content comes from LA. Just waiting on Snap to sort our IPv6 with Google for their cache and we'll be sorted :-D

The request is in with Wholesale but they are refusing to change it right now,

Is that a wholesale thing or is it Snap that is refusing to change the profile? I am looking at getting VDSL2 in December when our cabinet gets upgraded and would like to change the profile.
We are about 175m in cable length from the cabinet so i would like to milk as much speed from it as i can.

It's wholesale, Snap have put the request in and it was rejected. I believe there is an email debate between them and wholesale going on as we speak.

i noticed your VDSL2 line had the occasional data error, did you notice the SNR fluctuating at all? Suprising that you do get reasonable speeds though with 17dB attenuation, so thats pretty good.




Qualified in business, certified in fibre, stuck in copper, have to keep going  ^_^

Think staying on 8b could be your best bet with 17dB attenuation.

If it is having a detrimental affect It's not visible at the user level, heres some more recent info:

i am to,  my dBm is 17 and they turned me down saying 17dBm was way to high and it had to be closer to 12 dBm for them to connect me.




Common sense is not as common as you think.

Still even at 17dB the higher upload looks totally worth (near 10Mbit vs 1Mbit max for ADSL2+) for say professionals working from home / home office.

VDSL2 is a totally different beast to ADSL2+ however, and there are good reasons to avoid "bad" connections as power levels and noise become critical for good performance.
