I'm extremely tempted but am worried about the reliability of their service.  I'm with Telecom at the moment and get 16mb downstream 1mb upstream.  Telecom is pretty rock solid too.

Im pretty keen on this as a backup connection, though my dealings in the past have really gone no where with them. I might try again.

How do they even make money with such cheap prices?

Zeon: How do they even make money with such cheap prices?

Hosting direct primarily host websites.
When you buy bandwidth in terms of megabits, its symmetrical. So they have heaps of websites sending data out of their datacentre to the internet, but not much coming in.

So what do you do with all this unused incoming bandwidth? Sell it cheap of course!

Based on the assumption that the average consumer will only upload about 1/10th of what they download, you can safely sell the unused bandwidth super cheap. So its probably already paid for by the people that host websites with them.

Thats just my theory anyway.

The other possibility is that they sell to geekzone users at cost or below cost as a loss leader, and then we go and tell all our clients how great they are who sign up at the standard profit making rates.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, better to make some money from that under-utilised bandwidth than leave it sitting there.

Although they are completely fleecing people on the modems, go buy your own for much less.

Can anyone recommend a good cheap VDSL2 modem?  I'm not interested in wireless or anything as I'll be plugging it into my Apple Airport Extreme.  I currently have an old Thompson ST536v6 which is rock solid so the equivalent VDSL2 modem would be great.

Thanks.

kiwitrc: Signed up but they may want to update their signup page as it wouldnt let me proceed without entering a State! So Comatose it is.

I just used their Contact Us form, which returned "GOOGLE_THANKS". It looks like these forms don't work too well...

The offer does look good but I find the statement in the OP "they've been banned before" a little disconcerting. I realise you're in a delicate position having received money from them, but it's also important for me to know who I'm dealing with when signing up to an ISP...

Can anyone elaborate?

HD stepped over the FUG when they got quite agitated while replying to some posts here. We decided to ban the account.

We keep editorial/moderation independent from commercial activities. So regardless of they paying for advertising, the ban stands and they are aware of it.

It appears their account is "Active" since most blocked accounts lead to no profile page once they are actually blocked.

But then again, I am possibly just seeing things.
