I'm looking to upgrade my olds computer from a Duron  to an Athlon one but don't see any shops on
I know trademe has a few but would really like to find new.

I severely doubt you will find a new socket A CPU anywhere. Even socket 939 is done now and stocks are selling out fast.
That said, I would like to think that most second hand units being sold today would be due to upgrades so hopefully you'd be ok.

Well I don't mean to say the obvius but there is trademe. You could even look for old Athlon PCs and just take the cpu out.

(my 2 cents - socket A was a nightmare. I literally crushed the CPU on a few installs).

..Im not ashamed to admit it either. I really hated that socket interface.

The cost of a good socket A was too much for the value,  so I have gone and got a 939 motherboard and a 2.2g 64bit 939 cpu.
I like the way the 939 did it's heat sink  connection, easy as.

I was worried about changing the socket a as it's a freaking  strain getting their HS on.

The new box is running sweet.
