Tempt to get this Dell monitor (UltraSharp U2713HM 27" Monitor with LED), are there any other recommendations (better alternatives) out there?

I've got one of these, and I can tell you it looks so good with 2560x1440 gaming! Best monitor I've ever had.

I've had a U2212HM for a year or so, it works well and I like it. The extra pixels would be nice. I calibrate with Spyder 3.

Dell UltraSharps are great. Though I must say, I do like Asus' PB278Q and PA279Q a little more, personally. No major reason, just looks somehow cleaner to me, plus rotating them to portrait mode is actually something I use a bit.

Thanks everyone. I ordered one last night.

However, the purchase experience was less than pleasant.
1) Web request constantly failing, feels like timeout.
2) Card payment failed apparently, but no visible feedback to me, appears as was successful.
3) Having to chase up the sales support to find out the order status (the ref# didn't work with their site).
4) The callback from the sales support didn't clearly identify himself, went straight to ask me to _verify_ my card details.
5) As I politely declined to _verify_ my full card details, he was still able to proceed with a second payment attempt.
6) This tells me that they are likely storing my full card details in readily accessible format rather than just token. Not sure if they are PCI-DSS compliant... I meant a rep was calling back a phone number without verifying my identity and transacting payment...
7) Still no ETA on ship date :|

Good luck with the shipment from Dell. Their customer service is the pits.
Mine got delivered to the wrong address and Dell wouldn't tell me the tracking number or even what company it was sent with (luckily I'm a super sleuth and managed to track it down without Dell's help).

I've bought one of those for someone from http://www.advantage.co.nz/, they were awesome to deal with! No really the guy I dealt with was crazy helpful and they delivered the monitor in two days.

It's a very nice panel, when you take it out of the box it just feels nice and solid, and the picture quality is great

I read that dell maybe releasing new higher res monitors soon. I read they have a 4k 24 inch one being released soon. That may push the price of older lower res ones down.

I'd be keen for a UP2414Q which is apparently going to be < $1000US, but sadly windows does such a terrible job at scaling to high resolutions. My eyes struggle with Full HD on my 13" laptop as it is. If they moved to vector based graphics I'd upgrade without hesitation.

mattwnz: Your comment made me feel all better now about my purchase!!! Anyway, I doubt I can afford a 4K monitor. :D

Seriously though, I have always had some form of problems with their service and delivery... I still remember how they left a $3K laptop on the doorstep after I EXPLICITLY told them to get a signature. I certainly felt like I was interacting with a 15 years old online shopping system/process the other night. Not great.

Well the order history said "shipped" but the estimated delivery date is still "unknown". Great logistics!

Well, the monitor arrived today, unexpectedly fast.

Aside from the terrible shopping experience, the hardware is pretty good and the screen is gorgeous! I look forward to spend the upcoming holidays coding away with it! :)
