Hi,

Running Windows 10 Home 64bit, freshly installed a month or so ago.

Everything been running fine until today, when Google Chrome kept freezing on me.... checked tasks and found multiple Google Chrome tasks running (usual), killed them all off except one that refused to be killed.

So switched to Edge - all fine until Ive browsed about 2 pages, then same thing, locks up.

Freshly installed Firefox, and guess what........ that refuses to work either.

Ive run CCleaner and flushed out all crap, rebooted, run malware scan, virus scan, but nothing seems to resolve this issue. Removed extensions from all browsers as well.

All other internet related apps (Steam, Battle.net, Skype etc) seem fine.

Any ideas before I re-install again ? (Which thankfully isnt a major since most of my stuff is kept on a server)

Graphics drivers for me were taking out browsers like crazy while leaving boring software unaffected. Had some old-as geforce in the machine which was never used for gaming. reverted to the intel terrible onboard and stability returned.

Any browser plugins (flash etc) that might be the cause? Some defaut windows plugin getting loaded in all browsers? Doing anything at the time related to the OS, like file open/save dialog boxes?

Use System Restore to restore the system to an earlier point in time.

(assuming System Restore still exists in the latest Windows 10 build)

...actually it might just be disabled by default...

Reinstalled in the end, thankfully Windows 10 only takes 15mins (if that) on a SSD, and I didnt have much installed except games (which were on a sep drive so didnt need to download them all again) :)

Only thing I can put it down to was a corrupted DLL somewhere, but an SFC scan didnt show up anything.

I kill System Restore, prefer doing my own backups if I feel the need ;)

Well, I appear to be up and running again for now..... I killed Sophos. Why its affecting my desktop only (I have it on multiple systems) I have no idea. Guess Ill have to go back to another AV for now and wait for Sophos to go through a couple more updates before trying it again.

Sure it's not the hard drive on the way out? Anything dodgy in the event viewer?

Nope, everything runs perfectly fine except browsers :) Its a fairly new SSD so wouldnt expect it to be dying...altho you never know ;)

Just looks like Sophos was intercepting my HTTP traffic and killing it which the browsers didnt like. It seems to be fine on Avast!, will monitor and see what happens :)
