Hello

The existing thread for this is closed but I have just spent about 30minutes on the phone speaking to someone with an Indian accent.

He claimed to be from the Spark Tech department.  His script was harmless up until he wanted me to run a programmed from ammyy.com.

As he was giving me instructions, I was Googling for scams.    I refused to run the program. He hung up on me when I demanded a Spark call back number.

His script is very convincing and I can understand how non-tech people get sucked in.    The existing thread might be closed but these scammers are still active.

Thanks Dazz. Unfortunately the ammyy site is legit in and of itself... They even have a page warning about the scams...

http://www.ammyy.com/en/admin_mu.html

If it was a simple link to a dodgy site we can block those very quickly - but in this case the best defense is common sense.

Thanks for the heads up.

Cheers - N

Hi

Which makes the scam even harder to detect.  Everything sounds and looks legit.

If ammyy.com didn't exist, the bad guys would just point to another website.

Please don't post the URLS of allegedly scam sites, as it just means that google potentially sees it as a legit site and ranks it higher. Better to break up the url into domain dot con, etc.

i say the opposite

Having the URL or name of the website in these forums, with associated thread topics such as ProgramName Scam is a good way to let victims know they are being directed to a scam site as the other search results showing its a scam will appear in the list when they type the URL.

Never, Ever does a client type our website url into the address bar, they always go via google when I am trying to get them to our screenconnect site.
