As per other posts, I am retiring my WHS2011 box.

I have managed to transfer (or at least have plans) all functions to other devices except for client backups.

I've been googling and googling and it seems WHS is the best backup and restore software for the money.

The money in my case being $0 because I already have it.

Daily incremental and de-duplicated backups with months worth of backups on hand to restore from.

My 5xPC backups dating back to 2014 only takes up 800GB.

File restores and bare-metal (is that what it is called when restoring to all new hardware?) restores possible.

I truly can find anything comparable for features at any price.

But the internet is huge and it's entirely possible I missed something.

So unless anyone out there in Geekzone can steer me towards something suitable I am seriously considering building a new WHS2011 box to do client backups and nothing else. This option is cheaper than other backup softwares I have looked at!

Personally I would reinstall WHS2011.  I use WSE 2016 and it does very similar things except I have AD setup for folder redirections and single logins etc.  For general windows storage and backup, WHS2011 will suffice, although is it unsupported now?

I like the integration with windows that these systems provide so I would say run with WHS2011.  I'm not sure if you can install anything else on WHS but with WSE you can install drivepooling software etc. to create shared pools and then run snapraid to create parity protected storage.

I'm retiring the server because the hardware is failing.

But its tempting now to build a smaller new WHS2011 box just for backups.

The current box has Drive Pool but I wouldnt need that in a backup only setup.

Sorry, I read the start of the webpage you linked me to and dismissed it as I dont have any Linux boxes.

This morning I read the whole thing and see that it backs up Windows as well, but has to be run from a Linux box.

I will hopefully own a RPi3 by the end of the week but I suspect this would not be a suitable device to run it on?
