Can anyone recommend a decent screen snipping tool for Windows 10 machine?

I've looked at Snagit but it is a bit of an overkill for my requirements (and a bit expensive). But I'd like something more advanced than the built-in tool.

Are you using Windows 10? I find the built in one in 10 a lot better and more useful than the one in Win7.

Yes - on my mac I use an app called Skitch which is really good. The Windows one isn't as good.

Agreed. Interested to know what makes any of the 3rd party ones any better than the Snipping Tool standard in Windows 10.

I use a tool called lightshot (https://app.prntscr.com) - but I might give greenshot a try if nothing more for the ability to capture a window.

Snipping tool is pretty basic. Yes you can highlight but its fiddly.

With Greenshot (and others) you can use hot keys (eg crtl+shift+a), set it up to automatically save the screenshot to a folder or copy to clipboard immediately. With the snipping tool both of those operations are manual and as far as I know you cant launch a screen capture using hot keys.

ShareX is a good tool, gives MULTIPLE options and can setup your own keyboard shortcuts. Can even auto upload to external sites if you want.

+1 for Greenshot.

I love the ability to open the screenshots in a basic built in editor and add items like numbers for documentation, comment stuff, and blur other stuff.

I make a point of making a donation for freeware that I really like, and this was one of them, if that tells you anything.

Another vote for Green Shot.  It has saved me countless hours after the years I have been using it on a daily basis.  It is a godsend for answering questions of forums like the Adobe forums.  It is better than Snipping tool right away, because it freezes the entire screen complete with cursors, but where it really shines is the ability to open up the screen grab in its editor.
