Hi

I started this new post re the sync email query

I decided to go with thunderbird on the backup pc.

On the xtra remote email server there are thousands of emails.

I tried thunderbird first on another email account as a test as it only has a few hundred emails

I set the account up in thunderbird as IMAP and in the sync & storage folder I set it to syncronise the most recent emails for 6 months. But it downloaded everything from xtras server when I first connected it.

Is the first time the account sync's going to download everything regards of what syncronise time I use?

Can thunderbird even handle downloading thousands of emails and any idea how long it would take.

Any advice would be great, thanks

Depends on size of the emails and how fast your internet connection is

Thunderbird will handle thousands of e-mails just fine. I have 24,713 in my Inbox right now, all in local storage.

The sync settings control what message content is downloaded. Information about messages will be obtained and displayed regardless. Older messages are still available, just not stored locally.
