When I start my PC my GPU fan makes an horrific noise for about 10 seconds then it goes silent but it's still spinning.

Any ideas?

it's almost new.

Lots of computers will run fan's at full speed during the boot cycle (to test them?), before cutting them back based on actual temperature of components. Is this happening here?

This is normal.

About the only way to avoid this is to keep Windows 10’s fast startup feature enabled. Of course this means you’re not really shutting the system down.

It's almost a clicking sound or like than fan it banging against something on each cycle. Still normal?

It’s normal for the fans to be spun to full speed at start up to ensure that they actually spin. Starting them on a slow spin risks them not starting up at all.

It’s not normal for a fan to make weird noises even at full speed.

Sometime when power is off press the centre of each fan with a little pressure it helps re-seat and stops it knocking on surrounding plastic.

open your gpu software and change the fan speed manually to be 100%, does it sound the same?

Just tried it with MSI afterburner and no. It's still silent.

take a screwdriver and prise the fan out .

or go and make a coffee while the PC is starting up.
Or replace with a better GT710 . They are really quiet .

Sure its the gpu and not cpu( or other?). Like other have said try to test them, or turn off pc and give them a spin with your hand and/or wiggle them a bit in their bearings. If it’s clicking then something is hitting something.

Edit: if you have a x570 motherbord with a pch fan then that might be the culprit, they usually don’t spin unless its hot and you’ll only hear it usually during startup.
