dt:

seeing a few 2000 series popping up for sale at prices that are more than the 3000 series advertised USD prices..

Speculated on some Nvida stock early hours this morning, +3.8% when the market closed.. fingers crossed for some good post October sales figures 🤞

You'd be mug to buy a 2nd hand 2070 or 2080 right now, I've been watching a few 2080ti's on TM and although overpriced compared to the new 3000 cards they are slowly dropping.

I have a mate who is certain he's gonna sell his 2080ti for $2k to fund a 3090... dreaming, anyone looking to drop money on a top tier card you'd think would be in the know.

Ask him who is this magical unicorn that's buying his 2080ti that doesn't know about the 30 series.

Unless it's heavily discounted I suppose. But it would have to be much less than the new 30 pricing.

it's clear they're trying to recover as much of their original purchase price as possible but I just done see them even coming close to some of the asking prices i've seen.. I personally see their value as half price now.. if I was spending that many banana's on a new card I could easily justify a couple hundred more to get something that performs significantly better

imagine if you bought one within the last couple of weeks.. ouch..

Dunnersfella:

The XBox SeriesX has just been confirmed to be 40Gbps...

So I will be interested to see if they want to support 12-bit panels or not.

I'm picking, because it's the computer industry, they will go 48Gbps.

Interesting, I had missed that; I guess LG's decision makes a bit more sense now.

Hmmm.... an XBox Series X or an RTX 3070 to replace my GTX 780; choices, choices....

From the NVIDIA website, under specs:

1 - Up to 4k 12-bit HDR at 240Hz with DP1.4a+DSC. Up to 8k 12-bit HDR at 60Hz with DP 1.4a+DSC or HDMI2.1+DSC. With dual DP1.4a+DSC, up to 8K HDR at 120Hz

So it looks like it is most likely a full speed port, even using DSC

LG is also touting 8k at 60fps gaming on their 8k TVs, specifically the bit-rate:

The α (Alpha) 9 Gen 3 AI processor in LG’s OLED and NanoCell 8K TVs take real-time ray-tracing performance to a new level and set a new standard for gaming-optimized picture and performance. With LG 8K OLED TVs able to deliver 8K content at 60 frames per second and handling staggering 48Gbps speeds, playing 8K games on LG OLED TVs and a NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 30 Series GPU has never looked so good.

2080ti for 2k, I don't seem them selling for much more than $800 in a months time on TM.  Not when a 3080 will be around the $1200-$1400 mark NZ

I watched the LTT piece after the event and he suggested this is the reason why the event was held now - not to gazump AMDs event but the PS5/Xbox events.

I'll probably end up with a PS5 and an RTX3070, the pricing/availability will determine when.

Exactly, I've told him this and he's too delusional to listen, I think he's too proud to admit he got burned buying his card only back in March. The day before the announcement I (jokingly) offered him $1300 and he laughed in my face, the very next morning after the announcement I texted him and said ill go $800 anything higher I'm in 3070 territory, he hasn't replied.

This is the tough choice I'm weighing up. I stuck with an rx570 as it was cheap and got the job done at lower settings. The 3070 just seems a lot of power for the money.

I'll be very interested to see if a 3060 and even a 3050 makes its way out in the coming months. If a 3060 can hit 2070ti and the 3050 hit 2060 performance but all with dlss 2.0 and some rtx it could be a great time to get in to pc gaming.

I'm in a fairly similar position. I bought an RX580 not so long ago to tide me over. I will pass it on to my daughter next year who is getting more and more into gaming.

I just upgraded to a 1440P 144Hz monitor so that will be my target for a new graphics card.

A 3070 card will practically allow you to play anything at 1440p on almost all ultra settings (Flight Simulator excepted) at or near 60 FPS, if the early benchmarks are to be believed. The jump in performance compared with the last gen appears to be incredible.

Yeah. I just need to prepare my arguments (to the manager and financial controller) about why I need it for working from home.

So how low will the GTX 1060 /1070 / 1080 drop to ?

If RTX 2070 drop to ~$400 (half a RTX2070) to match the price/performance expected ..
Then do we assume 1070 will be ~$250 ?
1060 3GB would be a lot closer to $100 ?

Or will the USD RRP not translate to NZD and we have $1K 3070 cards ?
