Second hand 3400G for $130. If you need a cooler (you probably don't, the one you have will work) allow another $50-80

Edit: Brand new 4600G for $282 if you really want 6 cores.

Looks like prices have changed (understandably) on PC parts recently - the CPU I was going to use has doubled in price 😮

Given my case/usage scenario, what would be the cheapest - and most suitable - option on this page, staying with the same CPU brand, etc?

I dont know what the local retailers are smoking, with those prices, however if you dont mind buying international you can get this via amazon au which in recent times ive found to be fantastic with quick shipping and great customer support...

Thanks but I'd rather get my parts locally. Have had bad experiences in the past where things die and it's impossible just to walk back into the shop if the seller is overseas.

5600 series pricing seems to be bouncing around at the moment. The 5600g has been volatile here in Dubai as well I’ve just upgraded to a 5600 so have been keeping an eye on it.

Buying new it’s worth putting some effort in and sniping good prices.
