@mdf I use Firefox personally and it is really reliable (also if you use 2FA in Bitwarden it'll automatically copy your 2FA meaning you press CTRL + SHIFT + L then CTRL + V).

With Edge I am pretty sure the key combo is different. I don't use Edge or any Chromium based browsers though so honestly I am as much help as doing a quick Google here.

Is there a trick to making the Bitwarden autofill ctrl+shift+L hotkey work reliably? It works for me maybe every second time I try and log in - Chrome usually works but I frequently have issues in Edge and Vivaldi.

I don't need to use a key combination to autofill. If BW detects it's on a page it should provide information to it pops up automatically, and if it has MFA information that is automatically put into the clipboard. Works on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

Edge is the same key combo. My issue is that it works sometimes on all browsers, and other Bitwarden hotkeys like ctrl+shift+Y also seem to work reliably.

I've just done some further digging, and it appears that this is a known (erratic) bug in Vivaldi. Either I'm an idiot and failed to spot the common trend was it just not working in Vivaldi (which is possible) or else I'm an idiot and when it didn't work in another browser I put it down to "grr, that hotkey bug again" when it was actually another problem like I wasn't logged in (which is also possible). Either way, not looking good for me!

Excellent! I'm picking its pushed out to all browser extensions as just found the Safari extension has it to. Have found my Safari extension was getting sluggish to load suggested logins but some quick searching suggests its more the age of my desktop than the extension.

For others in the Bitwarden extension go Settings then Other section then Others. It's marked as "experimental".

Enable autofill in the BW plugin option. Works on Chrome, Firefox, Edge.

Open the plugin, choose settings, scroll down, choose options, it's in there. I'll add to my post above as well.

It does if you look in the correct place 😉 Open the plugin, choose settings, scroll down, choose options, it's in there. I'll add to my post above as well.

Ah, got there. The BW icon was not showing on the Chrome toolbar. The extensions jigsaw icon had it underneath though. Pinned the BW extension underneath that and now can get to the Autofill setting.

@timmmay @johno1234 Just FYI - from a security perspective don't enable autofill on page load. Sure, it is nice especially coming from a password manage with this feature but getting a password manager to potentially autofill on an untrusted page is actually a way to get you compromised. This has been exploited in the past too (LastPass, again...): https://labs.detectify.com/2016/07/27/how-i-made-lastpass-give-me-all-your-passwords/

It is either a couple of clicks or a keyboard shortcut to get Bitwarden to fill but also way more secure as you have full control on when you hand over secrets.

Good call I guess... annoying though. I came from KeyPass which was all copy and paste, it was a nice feature to have.

BW fills based on matching the URI so if I only setup BW passwords for trusted pages it should be safe, right?

CTRL + Shift + L on a PC to autofill and then Ctrl + V when it asks for 2FA (assuming you're using Bitwarden for 2FA). Super quick.
