Anybody have a good price on the Microsoft 365 Family plan?

$229 from Microsoft directly, $199 from PB Tech, $159 from Just Laptops.

Last year I paid $136.99 from JustLaptops on 24th Nov 2023. Can't remember if it was discounted - but unlikely.

Annual fee is now $179

How does JustLaptops normally sell it for $118.99 (discounted currently to $99), when Microsoft sells it for $179?!

I am considering moving from 365 Family to 365 Personal licence now, $99 is a great price.

I initially wondered if I'd made the right choice in going with a personal licence, but I've had no reason to regret the decision in the 4-5 years we've had it. Primarily that was thinking about our kids, but their schools either use Google Docs or provide M365. And I'm totally happy sharing access to my MS account with my wife, so we have the same account on our phones, tablets and a laptop - all for $99 (or less in previous years!). So definitely saved a decent amount on the call over the years...

BTW, having paid for my two M365 Personal licences yesterday afternoon via internet banking, I got the photo of the codes mid-morning, so well under a 24 hour turnaround.

My dilemma (as outlined in another thread I started here earlier) is I have both Google and MS365 .... In the end, I decided to stick with a Microsoft 365 licence for one more year, so I have the desktop Excel and Word, for processing the data and writing my thesis comfortably (with full access to the tools/functionality). I just need this for a few more months so I do need a licence again as it expires in the next week.

Once thesis is done (and the licence finishes) I will downgrade to the free version of Microsoft 365 and stick with Google.

I can't recall why I got Microsoft Family in the first place when my husband has 365 with his work... probably an impulse purchase! :D

The $159 365 Family link you've posted displays, but adds to the cart as $168. If I search for 365 Family on their site, the only option available is the $168 deal (1% discount). I guess they've reviewed the price already.

EDIT: And if I click on the $168 1% discount deal from the search above, it then displays the full price as $185 with a 9% discount for $168. Hmmm......

"we're adjusting our subscription prices."
"your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription will change"

Why do they obfuscate, You're going to read to the end of the email to find the Punchline, (its  a price rise)

No one is seriously expecting the price to fall, so why don't they just put it in the headline..

bah.... Huge global Marketing departments.... mutter..mutter...mumble, mumble

I believe it's a price rise because they have added CoPilot which  most users don't want.

It's no longer $99 at JustLaptops :( It's gone up to $115 (discounted from $129).

A noob question I know, but my mind is currently not computing well; I've gotten a MS365 Personal licence now, do I just wait til my current MS365 Family licence expires next week, and then put in the licence key from the Personal licence to switch over?

Just  go  to the Microsoft site, login and load the new  license.  You can load up to  5 years of them on to  your account.

I think you can just put the licence code into the online Microsoft portal thing and it will ask you if you want to switch to using personal or to extend the Family licence for a shorter period - last time I did this, I added personal licence code to my existing family without converting and I got a 9 month extension (i.e. the 12 months personal was treated as a 9 month family extension).

Pretty sure you can opt to switch to personal when you do that and get the full 12 months (after losing the "family" bits, of course, but if you're not sharing that with anyone, then I don't think there is much difference otherwise)

Just tried entering in the licence key and when it asked if I want to keep Family, or switch to Personal, I chose Personal. It then told me to wait until my Family licence expires and then come back and enter the product key.

I started again and chose keep Family this time (per info above). Now it tells me my subscription to Family finishes in August 2025.

I guess that's OK as I won't need a MS365 licence after January/February anyway.
