Hey Forum peeps

Last week I was using my national bank online banking ok, but now I login ok, but everytime I click on a transaction etc it just logs me right out.  I'm using windows Vista, and this problem has only started happening in the last 2 days.

I can access the site ok from my Mac at work, so its obviously just my computer which has done somthing.  I've cleared temp internet files (which I understand is cache clearing).  Does anyone else know what it could be?

It's not something to do with cookies being blocked is it?

not sure, but i'll certainly take a look. Someone else suggested something to do with security settings or an interferring antivirus...again, not sure but will take a look at that also. It's odd, as far as I'm aware I haven't changed anything in my internet settings.

I'll take on board ANY suggestion...keep em coming!

Is this on Internet Explorer? What happens when you use FireFox or any browser apart from the problem one on the problem computer?

yep it is IE on my PC. It opens in Safari and Firefox on my Mac...so I'll try firefox on the PC and see if that helps.

Another thing to try is accessing other secure sites that require a login such as your internet provider or mobile phone e.t.c. to see if they work. It is a little strange that you are able to login but then get logged out as normally most bank sites or other secure sites that require that sort of thing wont allow you to login if cookies aren't enabled.

Microsofts patch tuesday was a couple of days ago, so you may find an update is causing this, although it's unlikely.

yes there was an automatic update the day before it all happened also, i'll check to see what the update was and if it has any relevance. all other sites are letting me login ok.

Downloaded firefox to my PC, and it's still not working. I don't really understand cookies, but there was one for the site so I deleted it... (??) and its still not working. Deleted the updates from the last patch & still not working.

any other suggestions?

yep, that's what i did. just went into updates, selected the ones from the 25th and uninstalled them individually - there were 3 of them. 'delete' was the wrong word, I def uninstalled them.

If this is something that is not working in BOTH IE and Firefox then I would rule out updates.

It's probably your antivirus configured to delete cookies - or antispyware or software firewall.

It was working on Monday and Tuesday, and I hadn't done anything with my virus protection at all, then on Wed the session started breaking. Can antivirus change its own settings without me doing anything? I'll check it out and see if anything shows up.

still nothing odd in antivirus. firewall turned off doesn't help either. Still working on my mac. Tried on windows mobile and it does the same thing. Can anyone help at all, or does anyone know anyone who can help me? does anyone have a friend who is a complete IT wizz? Perhaps theyre not on this forum, perhaps they could email me on nzstacey@hotmail.com. I came to the forum as I simply don't know where else to turn, but the forum isn't helping...does anyone read these things - this is very frustrating.

Might be worth trying Google's browser, Google Chrome as well just in case it's something affecting both IE and Firefox.

are you sure its not a virus, have you run a malware program something like Spybot or Malwarebytes both free and easy to use

I use NOD32, ran a full scan and nothing came up. Thing is though, why is it happening on 2 devices? Hmmm.. ok here's something I just thought of, it happened very much the same time as I switched my Internet provider from vodafone to telecom...a long shot, but do you think that the provider has some weird settings?

Ok, its been recommended that the old SSL cert is loading which is causing the problem. I think this might be right, because the new SSL cert has a start date of November 16th approximately the same time the problem occured.

Who knows how to get rid of this old SSL cert from the cache - I tried ccleaner which was recommended, but it didn't work.
