Does anyone else use SyncToy?

I'm syncing files between our desktop and our laptop (our digi cam photos, music and documents)

Sometimes when i run a scan, it doesn't pick up any changes. I then run it again and it does pick up changes. I just don't know why it misses them sometimes?

Windows 7 on both computers.

Strange. I use to sync some folders from my laptop to my Windows Home Server - we're talking about 50,000 files here (documents, photos, etc) and never missed a bit.

And, yes, could you folks please please please create topics in the correct forums?

I run Sync Toy and haven't noticed any problems so far. Although I haven't actually checked to see if it is running properly. I guess I should take a look.
I will have a quick look and report back.

Incidentally, and slightly OT, are you Syncing over Homegroup? If so, how did you get it to run? I haven't quite managed to get files Syncing over the network. I want to be able to do what you are doing (i.e. Sync from my desktop to my laptop, maybe vice versa). Maybe Homegroup is the wrong avenue?

Have to say, I like Sync Toy. Did a bit a trolling through various different "Backup" applications until I stumbled upon SyncToy. Simple, fast, clean, free.... what more could you want.

Sorry freitasm, i thought this was best fitted in off-topic.

dontpanic42, i had the same problem!!

The way around it is to sync to the public folders and make the public folders the default save to location in your library.

As you know, the libraries (eg, music library) include files from multiple folders. By default, the music library includes files from Music folder and Public Music folder. To get Sync Toy to work, i had to move all files to the public music library and make the public music library the default save to address for when i saves music,

I couldn't figure out how to get sync toy to work on homegroups through the normal folders, even though all sharing options were allowed.

Anyway, i just find it frustrating that sync toy doesn't work properly for me... i'm trusting it a lot to keep both computers up to date!

Another example is that on my laptop, my photos folder will have 12,855 photos in it but on my desktop its only got 12,844 files in it and that's after a sync. I also know there are no hidden files there.

Anyone had any experience with Robosync?

I managed to get files syncing over Homegroup... Yay!.

However I think I have discovered the same problems you had.
I set up a folder pair that had multiple folders inside the parent folder.
I ran that a few times and decided there were a few larger folders that I could do without syncing.
So I excluded the sub-folders from the folder pair, and then previewed the sync. It decided that it wasn't going to delete the folder from the echo on my laptop (which is the "right" folder).
It still won't pick up the changes, which leads me to believe that it may actually be the way that sync toy works.

I hope someone can prove me wrong on that.
