Hi Guys,

Had a very interesting conversation with a mate today on Anti-static mouse pads and we could not find a quick answer searching on the internet.

The question is, can standard mouse pads that have no grounding wires be classified as anti-static mouse pads?

I noticed that some mouse pads that have non fabric type surface are advertised as anti-static mouse pads. Are they really anti-static mouse pads? or is that just retailers, using fancy names to make simple products sound more important than they really are?

Cheers for your help :)

I have never heard of such a thing actually. It sounds like marketing type to me!

Nowadays, it is more popular to use mice without any pads at all.

You can make any fabric antistatic simply by adding an antistatic compound to it - this is common with clothing which can be made anti static.

The question I'd ask however is what possible gains there could be with one. I haven't even used a mouse pad for years so wouldn't have any static buildup issues!

After googling I found that the reason for anti-static mouse pads is so that your computer doesn't degrade due to the static from your mouse.

Hmmm... FAIL.

Any reason for a product I suppose!
