I just got a phone call from someone representing <unintelligible>, who told me that my computer had an infection that is causing it to send out fraudulent emails. This person appeared to be in a very crowded room with lots of people talking at the top of their lungs, so much of what he said, including the name of the organization he allegedly represents, was unintelligible. He had as near as I could tell a South Asian accent. He informed me that my IP address had been identified as the source of these fraudulent emails. I asked him what was the IP address. After I asked him this question twice, and told him that if he didn't provide this information I'd hang up, he hung up (saved me the bother). Aha! Another WAFL-type scam (WAFL = West African Fraud Letter), even though Djibouti is in east Africa. Caller id shows +2538020308 (= Djibouti). Posts in an earlier thread suggest that the scammers will try to get you to give them control of your computer so that they can really infect it. Don't fall for this nonsense.

So this explains the strange call someone reported as coming from "025" and thought it was the old Telecom network coming back as a zombie (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=39&topicid=83414).
