Hi there. I just connected my HDMI cable to my LG 32", it only showed my desktop, no icons or anything and also it would show on whatever resolution I put it on. I tried a different slot, same story and then I tried my Panasonic 42" and got the exact same story.

I have worked this before through my TV and it worked good. However this time its only just showing the desktop?

The notification on my PC didnt come up saying it has found a new connection (or whatever) like it usaully does. Did I do something wrong? Do it in the wrong order or what?

Cheers

I assume you have set your computer to extend the desktop, are you wanting to duplicate what is on your monitor onto your TV? Or are you unplugging your monitor and using a TV in its place?

I want to duplicate what is on my PC and put it onto my TV. Instead of watching a movie on my PC I would rather watch on my 32/42".

Its been all fine before, just this time im not sure whats going on.

Where is this "Clone the desktop" option? When I was connecting my PC-TV a few months ago this all worked fine I didnt have to tick any boxes or anything. I just simply plugged it all in, and then changed my resolution to 1920x1080 and it worked.

You must have changed it once, and it is now defaulting to the last option you used.

Where do you change your resolution? There should be something in a similar area to change the 2nd monitor options. Are you using windows own settings, or ATI/Nvidia?

I change my Resolution on my Desktop. Right Click Desktop >Personalize > Display Settings > then your there. It is showing a Number 1 and Number 2. Monitor 1 has two boxes ticked, "This is my main monitor" and " extend the desktop onto this monitor". Both are grey and unable to change.

Monitor 2 has the same options. Extend the desktop can be ticked, and when you tick it, "this is my main monitor" becomes avaible to tick aswell.

Not sure what you mean by what settings am i using sorry. However Monitor 1 is AOC 2434 on ATI Radeon HD 3450, Monitor 2 is (Default Monitor) on ATI Radeon HD 3450.

Hopefully that all makes sense lol

Is it win7?
If so, press Windows-P, then select Duplicate or Projector only.

I have just been having a little play around with it again. I forgot to mention that I dont have a full hDMI cable. By that I mean I plug the HDMI bit into my TV but I plug a VGA (I think thats what its called) bit into my PC.

I can now get the icons to show on my desktop, but then they disapear from my PC. When I done this months ago I could see the icons and everything on both screens at the same time. Now its just one or the other.

What a mess :(

The problem with having it "duplicated" is that you will get the lower resolution in both displays - you won't get the best picture.

By extending you can use the native resolution in each, and they behave like a single desktop - move the mouse cursor around and it will jump from one to another like it was single desktop, but wider.

Another option is to make it primary then you will have the TV only when plugged, this way you don't get messy.

It does work. You just have to find the setting is best for you.

I had to go into ATI Catalyst Control Center and then "clone" my screens. Now it is working like it should, however last time Im sure I didnt have to go into that program, maybe im wrong though.

Thank you for all the help everybody :)
