Hi guys

I got my desktop in mid 2008 and haven’t touched it since. My knowledge is very limited in this area, just wondering if there are any shortcomings now that it’s 3 years old?

Comments / suggestions would be most helpful, I hope I’ve got all the important bits listed below-

Intel i7 CPU 920 @2.67 GHz

Gigabyte EX58-UD3R

6 gig Corsair DDR3 1600mhz RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275

1T hard drive

Running on 64 bit Windows Vista.  Am thinking I will upgrade this to Windows 7.

Thanks heaps

Without knowing what you plan to use the pc for its hard to say.. Looks pretty solid to me, if you said you wanted to play Metro 2033 etc or Battlefield 3 when it comes out, i would tell you that you will need to upgrade that graphics card. Other than that no it looks fine.

Yup, it's all good to me. You may change your memory sticks to higher GB, if you like.

A New VCard would also be a good thing to move up if you're planning to play those upcoming games that garvani said.

If you don't mind me asking...what PSU are you running as of the moment?

Fantastic, thanks guys.  The PC is used for gaming, browsing and watching videos.

BF3 is on pre order- so I will look at getting a new video card.  Any recomendations? I don't mind spending the money on a decent one if its worth it and it future proofs me but don't want to pay more than I have to.

Re the PSU, I will have to check when I get home- I can't remember.

I will get windows 7 too- at the moment, computer lounge / mighty ape seem to have it for ~$185- Do you know of any better deals out there?

The best bang for buck with good performance in that resolution is the AMD Radeon 6950 or Nvidia Geforce 560Ti.

These are ~$350-400

But... since you mention BF3 which of course has unknown performance requirements atm, you might be better off going for 1 model up eg: Radeon 6970 or Geforce 570.

These are ~$500-600, so bit of a price jump
