I recently brought a WD 2tb external hdd which i put internally into my computer. I previously had a 1tb in there which i upgraded. I swapped the 1tb with the 2tb and now have the 2 tb in my computer and put the 1tb in the external enclosure so the kids can use it on there PS3.

The 2tb is a western digital and the 1tb is a seagate.
I had both installed in my computer at once and i formatted the 1tb seagate to FAT32 before i put it into the enclosure.

All was sweet and working up until now.

When i tried plugging the 1tb seagate in the WD enclosure into the PS3 it couldn't find it the white light on it just keeps blinking. Doesn't matter where i plug it into whether it be another PS3 or a computer or laptop the light just flashes and you cant see the drive.

You cant see it in device manager either.

Any one know what the problem is?

One option may be to try putting the drive in SATA I mode. It's purely an idea, as the exclosure may not support SATA II drives if infact the 1TB is a SATA II drive.

WD externals are renound for having the drive specs and firmware fixed on the PCB that plugs into it. If it doesn't have the right number of sectors its expecting etc it just wont go.

I had a mate try the same with his 2tb ext, remove the drive for his PC and put a smaller one in it. I found it just couldn't be done.

They made the enclosure around the drive.

Google around and you find people around the world with the same issue.

Sounds like its not worth going down that route if the external case is hard set to the original WD drive. You need a generic external case, preferably one that supports USB3, so you can install your choice of drive.
