Hi all,

Looking to improve communication across a department in a company.  Looking to post small messages about any work any one of the team may be doing, in case that sparks interest from others who could benefit from such knowledge.
The idea has been raised that it would be cool if we could have a common post it notes/noticeboard/news feed type thing setup on each computer.  Maybe as a desktop widget or heck even a dynamic desktop wall paper or section or something.

Just wondering if anyone is aware of a way of doing something like this.  Everyone is running (or could be running) Windows 7 if that's important.

The idea of a side gadget sounds great.  Outlook had been suggested but emails to tell everyone what we are individually up to can get lost in the mess.  A group Twitter account was floated etc.

Basically it's a nice idea and any suggestions appreciated.

if you use sharepoint, either the paid or free version, you can set up your own social hub complete with blogs, comments and RSS (which can feed into outlook, or gadgets). these things can act a bit like a 'wall' or feed in facebook/twitter.

if you're using a CRM e.g. microsoft, or salesforce, you can try out the social crm add-ons.

otherwise there are a multitude of other products out there that could probably achieve something similar

Thanks Regs I'll check the specifics today with IT. Believe we do have some of those platforms in place.

And I'll check Yammer out too.

Yammer looking easy and includes the desktop app.

Crazy thing is there are already 13 groups from the company on there!

Just need to work out how to change our group settings to be very private, so internal group comments are not viewable by other groups within the company, as negative as that might sound.....

freitasm: Have you looked at Yammer?

This won on the day as we could implement it easily with no IT involvement and it included the desktop app too.  Thanks!
