It's not just the launcher that make Windows Phone better ;)

I hsve been using a Windows Phone 8 handset since the NDA was lifted yesterday. It's the Samsung Ativ S - we chatted a little about it on the NZ Tech Podcast last night.

So many nice little improvements across the board - such as cloud backup of SMS messages, full resolution syncing of photos to SkyDrive, Children's corner. It's mass storage mode is very nice with just access to the relevant folders - photos, music, documents, etc. Very slick and beautiful with the HD screen on the Ativ S. Very pleased to see it being made available at such a hot price by Warehouse Stationery. I used the new Windows Phone app for Windows 8/RT to sync music and content from my computer to the phone and that worked flawlessly.

This is shaping up to be a great companion device for Windows and Xbox users. I think we'll see some market share growth for Windows Phone over the year ahead.

allan:
nakedmolerat: I have been an android user since HTC magic.

I really want to try windows phone 8. Is there any offer or 920 lumia that I can borrow for a week or two?

You could always try Launcher 7 on your android in the meantime - haha Wink

LOL. windows phone environment, not just the UI!

I have been using android for sometimes now (HTC magic, galaxy s, moto milestone 2, moto defy, galaxy s2, currently galaxy note), it is hard for me to make a jump without actually trialling it first.

It is like buying a Great Wall V-Series after I have been using Toyota Hilux for years Tongue Out

Battery life seems good thus far. Unfortunately there are very few of these handsets about and I have to return it today.

He meant out of Windows phone range which is true because Ativ S has a 2300mAh battery.

I am also thinking about making the jump to WP8 from a S3, the company i work for just did a major buy up of all the discounted stock on wp7 lumia's as the replacement for the e63's and blackberrys we have (i know wp7 is out of date now but it still works for email, text, phone etc which is all that is needed for a work issued phone).

Have been using the lumia800 for a few days and love it, battery is great, does everything i want it to do and just like the feel of it, and nice to see nokia keeping on top of updates (and not taking months to get them out like samsung).

So really looking forward to see the lumia 820 or 920 (thinking 820 will be fine for me).

Then just have to get a surface and replace the ps3 with a xbox LOL.

MS has really started to get there s**t together and I like the idea of everything working together.

Yes I think Microsoft are on a roll again.  Really hope they do well.
I think I would have to go for the Nokia 920  rather than the 820.  I like the 820 and it would be fine.  Only thing is I use the phone for photos as well and it appears only the 920 has image stabilisation

For those waiting for the 920 to hit NZ, you might be out of luck. Nokia have announced the countries that will be getting them this year and NZ isn't on that list. I'd love to be wrong though.

I was planning to import one from Clove, but Nokia have also announced that in the UK, EE has exclusivity until the end of the year and that no sim free options can be sold.

Anyone aware of any other good importers to use?

Negri Electronics (USA) has it listed for USD$698, potentially available on the 10th Nov.
Expansys have it listed but no pricing or availability.
Mobicity are the same.

Telstra in Aus are meant to be getting it at the end of the month, including unlocked no contract options. Worse case I might have to get one of those.
