When you say freeze, do you mean the OS stops responding then restarts

can you reproduce it

is there a common thing you do that makes this happen

Might be upgrading to 920 soon.

Getting a special deal just over $700 for it, brand new too.   :)

I gave Telecom $999 for a nice Yellow 920 last Thrusday and I'm still waiting for it to arrive. It appears they have had some stuff up with stock and then allocation. Needless to say it has been the worst retail experience I have ever had with any company.

Hope you do manage to bag the upgrade to the 920, it looks like a stunning device. Although I'm a little concerned by these apparent update delays...

I can relate to this.

In my experience and that of my friends as well... the Riccarton Mall Telecom NZ store has been one of the worst stores we have ever had to deal with.

-Little / no stock
-Expensive & do not price match  (RRP or nothing)
-Returns / refunds and fixes absolutely terrible.

My girlfriend had a LG Optimus 7Q with several obvious problems, still under warranty and the issues were related to the hardware.

Had to take the phone in numerous times, was charged for an extra battery which did not remedy the issue, and then swore at us when we wanted the refund in cash as opposed to deposit into the bank account.

Recently some friends had to go through a similar process composing of nothing but grief dealing with this store as well.

Telecom NZ Riccarton Mall store.... Avoid like the plague.

nathan: there are some unique changes for NZ in the Portico ROM that will be rolling out over the air. So its Portico from Microsoft + some other stuff. That might explain a little more about how this update works and changing things etc

There are obviously ways of flashing it now yourself, search on Navifirm on the net, but honestly I recommend you wait, its not long now

You're feedback is heard, received, passed on. As I mentioned I'm in exactly the same boat as you with a personally purchased $999 black Nokia Lumia 920 with the Telecom NZ image on it, and I'm still waiting...

My black 920 (from telecom, bought on release day) bricked itself last night after a reset. I had problems with the Wallet not updating with an additional card that I loaded through the Microsoft Commerce site and Wallet was constantly crashing when trying to do anything. The phone was plugged in charging and I reset it from "Settings > About Phone > Reset". I left the phone to do it's thing and when I checked it this morning, 6 hours later, the gears were still turning. Took the phone off charge to take it to work with me and the phone was flat by the time that I got to work. Now when I try to turn the phone on, it's stuck at the Nokia screen. I've found the post on WPCentral where I can recover the phone with NaviFirm but...

If I load the TelecomNZ V1 firmware from NaviFirm, will I still receive "Portico from Microsoft + some other stuff OTA" or am I better off taking the phone into Telecom and getting the phone sent away for repair.

I'm really sorry this happened to you, it sucks.  This is (now) a known issue in the original version, and fixed in Portico

If you reload the firmware yourself yes you will get the Portico update OTA, honestly its not long to wait now for the Telecom NZ handset images to receive it

I will post back in here as soon as its released

If you're confident enough to flash it yourself go ahead, if you were a normal end user I'd suggest going back to Telecom/Nokia

I walked out of the Dunedin Telecom store because they were rude and completely useless and just ordered it online. Now this has turned in to hell. When I rang on Wednesday to see where it was they assured me I should get it today, but I have yet to receive it and I have no track and trace number from them yet. I'm sick of being stuffed around by them if they are out of stock just admit it and give me a realistic date of the next shipment. I'll me making a complaint about the process when it finally shows up. If you didn't already I'd considered calling Telecom Help desk and asking to make a complaint about your retail experience at Riccarton Mall.

Occasionally it freezes and then reboots but the more common issue is for it to freeze and require me to do a reboot/reset.

As for anything that trigger it - it occurs randomly; I'll be browsing a website and then suddenly it would freeze, scroll through the music application and it freezes, when I first setup the phone the whole thing froze (I recorded the whole fiasco as part of my Nokia 920 review I uploaded on my YouTube channel). As noted I am wondering whether the issue is the hardware or the software - are HTC users experiencing the same issue?

On my day off (was going to do it last week but ran out of time) I'll take it into Harvey Norman and see what they can do - worse case scenario I'll kick up a stink and go 'Fair Go'; I'm willing to cut Microsoft and Nokia some slack but come on, these are bugs that should have been experienced during beta testing and actually addressed before reaching to market. What I use my phone for is hardly anything strange or unusual so it makes me wonder whether the software was actually tested on real phones and whether those real phones were actually used for more than just making a phone call with the tester going, "well, that seems to work - mission complete!".

Your description would indicate a hardware problem to me. I can say my phone DOES NOT lock up / require reboots either with the original firmware or the portico firmware.

My phone DOES get hot if used a lot (20 mins on video Skype over 3g = very hot back top of the device).

My phone charges on the wireless charger overnight without dying.

It would seem pretty clear to me, that these freezes / locking / dying issues ARE hardware related, Nokia should fess up and replace the faulty units without fuss.

I'm having the same experience, and so I'm very happy with the phone and UI.

I got a yellow 920 from there a few weeks back, no problems at all. Just walked in and asked.

I'll take it in on Wednesday - it is pretty annoying; I'll be truly angry if Nokia quotes me some stupid time period I'll demand they actually replace the phone because in all due respects it isn't my fault that they can't get their act together. Hopefully with some pushing Harvey Norman will just replace it and let Nokia sort out the details.

Finally received my yellow Lumia 92 yesterday and it came with a yellow charging plate. Loving this wireless charging, just throw it on the plate whilst working at my desk and no need to plug in at anytime. Although I haven't had it for long the battery life seems pretty solid which I'm pleased with. The battery life on my HTC One X was soso and I was really looking for a substantial improvement. Having switched to Android through the HTC One X in mid 2012 from an iPhone 4 I never really fell in love with Android as an operating system. Sure I see good parts and can see how some user might prefer it but in terms of general Joe Blogs I felt it was missing a degree of completeness and cohesion that Apple had managed to pull of with iOS. I have never managed to put my finger on what it was because I always though I'd love the added customisability and especially widgets that Android brought but this never really eventuated. In saying that in the shor time I have spent with Windows Phone 8 I have to say that I am impressed. The OS is snappy and simple, it does everything I need it to do and it looks really nice. Sure the app store is not as complete as Android or iOS but I have never really been much of an avid app user. The apps Nokia include are great and I love being able to download the maps for all of New Zealand to have them there and available offline. Nokia drive also looks far more usable than Google's turn by turn navigation, the Nokia offering might not be as "pretty" as Google's but it is far more usable when driving in my opinion. The build quality of the Lumia also stands out to me and it is clear Nokia hasn't lost its touch when it comes to build quality. I feel safe carrying this phone around and not scared that it may break with the slightest bump as is the case with many other handsets. Having spent so time handling my friends HTC 8X I certainly prefer the "heft" of the Lumia over the "lightness" of the HTC.

I think I've finally found both the OS and Handset that importantly allows me to do everything I need it to and that I enjoy to use. Lets hope more and more people see how great Windows Phone 8 is and we see an upward swing in adoption rates, because it really is a nice OS.

I have to say after a week of adopting the windows 8 lifestyle I am already a little dissapointed. My main issue is that I find an app on my windows phone that i want to use say soundcloud and i go to my windows laptop and the same app isnt availble there ? The whole point and what i though the idea was that everything is linked together and i can go seamlessly between units.

I was driving down the Quay in Wellington when my Bluetooth spearkerphone announced "There's no phone connected". I looked at the console and the phone was restarting by itself with the Telecom logo showing up.

The NOKIA logo showed up and that's it. The phone is bricked. It's been showing the NOKIA logo for the last four hours now.

Great. I guess I will get the Portico update early after all. But not in a good way.
