Nokia Support didn't have any answers. Was told to try a VF store and see if a sim which has had 4G work before, worked on my phone. Or maybe my sim in a phone which has had 4G working on it and see if it's my sim

By going into field test mode, settings > Network Type > 4G only.

NOW 4G works.

However irritating, why won't it work in the automatic setup..

However note that you won't have any coverage OUTSIDE of 4G areas. Also remember 4G is for data only, so switching to 4G only you won't have voice calls.

Ah, knew the first part of that, completely forgot about not getting voice calls..

Any thoughts on why we're not getting the option for 4G under normal settings

Badboy2303: Any thoughts on why we're not getting the option for 4G under normal settings
The functionality seems to be turned off in the firmware by the phone provider. On my parallel import device I do see 4G under the normal settings.

correct. The carrier decided to disable 4G in the ROM image they use on the phones they sell here

Since changing to 4G Only, then changing back to automatic, 4G seems to have stayed.. Don't have the chance to test calling my phone. But i've disabled and re-enabled automatic, rebooted my phone.
4G is still there.

Does anyone know where to find the unbranded firmware for the 920 under NaviFirm Plus.
I know where to find the telecom firmware but I am hoping there is an unbranded option.

Try:

059Q9P1-1232.5951.1249.1002 (CV-AUNZ)

That's what I downloaded should the need arise, but haven't tried flashing to it yet.  The 'CV' roms are unbranded.

I've read about Settings > access point

Does activating Vodafone help? At home I don't have 4G coverage so I can't really check :\

great, cool little app not heard of that one before

i cant test it as I'm in Sydney now but after installing it cant see that it will do it, looks like it sets APN and MMS based on your SIM

the Telecom NZ Nokia Lumia 920s have the 4G disabled in firmware

from my testing earlier today in Auckland the field test mode setting wont fix this, you'll need an unbranded open market 920, which doesn't have 4G disabled, or flash a new ROM onto the Telecom one
