I seem to have fixed my email problem.

I deleted the account again and then instead of using the Xtra or Yahoo account options I used advanced set up option and manually entered the incoming and outgoing server addresses.

After that it worked OK.

Well perhaps not.  Can send and receive on Wi-Fi OK. but on 3G only seems to receive.  Says email sent but nothing showing up at other end.  Frown

Ditch Yahoo/Xtra and use an email provider that actually knows what they are doing.  Gmail FTW!

I had the Cog screen after a hard reset and had to reflash it. That was when the Nokia care suite was working and the 1308 firmware was available on it. The reflash made the phone completely flawless, so look forward to getting it back.

That's not a particularly helpful answer. FWIW I've had no problem with Xtra and have no reason to change. Besides this email account works perfectly well on other mobile devices so it's not an Xtra issue it's something to do with the phone.

I don't think the problem is that. It sound like a wrong SMTP defined for the email account. Some ISPs only allow relay from inside their network. That could easily explain why it works on WiFi (probably at home) but not on 3G (probably on another operator).

Technofreak, have your created it as a POP account or as a Yahoo! account?

to possibly avoid the wait for repair we tried a factory reset (luckily on this occasion settings would actually open). After spending 48 hours in the Telecom store it was still on the "cog screen", so now it's off for repair.

Has anyone had this occur, seems like a strange thing to happen.

I'm pretty sure Freitasm had the same thing happen when he attempted to wipe all personal data before selling his phone.

Nokia said this problem was fixed with the Windows Phone Portico release. It clearly is not fixed because I had it myself on a fully updated handset and read of other people having it. This is the only Windows Phone that shows this problem that I know of, telling me Nokia doesn't know exactly what to do - and now that other models are around I doubt it will ever be fixed. But that's the cynical talking.

I originally set it up using the Xtra option on the add accounts window.  That worked well until I tried to send an email using 3G. This was from memory the first email I had sent from this phone on that account. That's when I started getting the error screen.

Since then I have deleted the account several times and re-installed it using the Xtra and then the Yahoo options. Both of these give the error screen on both 3G and WiFi whenever I try to sync yet I still get incoming mail.  I then set it up as a POP using the advanced option.  The POP option allows the email to be sent on WiFi but still no 3G outbound.  I'm using the Telecom network.

Thanks Mauricio,

I'll give that a go. About to head out to work so may not get to try it right away.

I should add with the POP set up as i currently have it, I don't get the error any more the email shows sent on the phone but doesn't arrive.

I'll let you know how it all goes.

Can you please post the working settings and method that resolved your problem so that others can benefit from it - and perhaps duplicate on the other thread too if it's not locked.  Cheers,  Duncan.

jamesjc25:
stevechadbourne: I sent mine away on Monday for a new screen after I dropped it. Was quoted $240 for a replacement screen on Wednesday. Received email on Friday saying it had been fixed. Expect it back early next week.

That's pretty quick. Mine is a warranty repair after it bricked, so hopefully it is still as fast of a turnaround.

Not sure if anyone else has had the same thing happen. But my Lumia wouldn't open a number of apps (including messaging, phone and settings) on Thursday. Turned it off and when I tried to turn it on it just cycled continuously through the Nokia and Telecom logos. Left it for a few hours and it finally booted up. Did the same thing Friday morning, took it to Telecom and of course by the time I got there it had finally booted. It was still playing up though, it would take up to 2 minutes to reactivate the screen when you tried to unlock it. Based on that Telecom was going to send it away for repair, but to possibly avoid the wait for repair we tried a factory reset (luckily on this occasion settings would actually open). After spending 48 hours in the Telecom store it was still on the "cog screen", so now it's off for repair.

Yes! This is the issue that I had that I mentioned in another thread. I have been battling with this for a few weeks now. Sometimes the auto-rotate wouldn't work, the camera wouldn't load, and the flash wouldn't work.

Mine is in at the shop off for repair, they attempted a hard reset, cogs, then cycle through nokia / telecom screen.

Finally got my Lumia back today, god that was a long two weeks with a low end 2 year old android lol.

They replaced most of the internals according to Telecom, so lets hope no more problems :D

Duncan,

Sorry I've only just seen your post. I don't remember exactly what I did in the setup now but from memory it was the same as or very similar to the process as used in setting up an account in outlook so far as the server address and ports etc.

I'm about to pass the phone onto my wife and so will have to go through the setup again shortly,  I'll take a note of the settings and post them here.
