freitasm: IIRC Windows Phone 8 had problems with non-alphanumeric characters in password fields with Yahoo! Mail.

Hmmm, No non alpha numeric characters being used, so that's not likely to be the problem.  Though each time the set up fails it asks for a new password.

Have you taken the device in to a Telecom store? They may be able to provide you with a fix in store.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I've tried the setup with WiFi On and Off thinking there may be an issue there.

I don't hold much hope there, unless they can give me different set up info.  The Telecom website has setup info that doesn't work for me.  Plus they'll want proof of purchase and as this is a Telecom tech blog phone there is no proof of purchase.

No you don't need proof of purchase. If you are on their network you can go in to a retail store and get technical assistance at anytime. I've had to do it a couple of times for various things in the past, was never an issue and it won't cost you anything.

I'll give them a try, though my experience of the staff in most of those places is they usually know less than I do.

Don't get me wrong, but I am not sure the store will be much help. Is the account currently being accessed by anything but webmail?

Hmmm......... after confirmation of the account password and much frustration and many many many attempts with various settings options I asked for confirmation of the account password again

Putting in the correct password makes all the difference. Funny that.

Would the update not just be delivered OTA and there be no need to run the Updater software?

How did you get it? Is Nokia Software Updater for retailer just Nokia Care Suite?
