Does anyone know how to access the SD card storage straight through the micro USB cable. Because it's a bit of a hassle always taking the SD card out just to put photos / videos up on to the computer. Just want to slot it in, and never have to open it again. Just connected to PC installed the windows phone program, but seems like only the 8gb is viewable. Anyone have any ideas of assessing the contents of the SD card without having to take it out?

I think there's something wrong with your SD card, or the setup on your PC.  I haven't bothered installing the Windows Phone software on my PC because it's simpler just to use Explorer.

A virtual disc drive is present on my PC:

-  Windows Phone

under that are two folders:

-  Phone
-  SD card

with all the folders you would expect under each of those.  I couldn't manage to rename a folder on the phone itself, but it works fine via Windows Explorer.  This applies to all the usual Copy/Move/Rename/Delete operations, just like a USB stick.

720 available at The Warehouse for $499 with free wireless charging case and pad. Could be tempting if you were thinking of importing one :D
