Have you tried updating the various Nokia system apps?

Search for an app called SysApp Pusher it will check to see if your Nokia apps are up-to-date. Works for HTC and Samsung published apps too.

You can't get apps in this region. You can check the Windows Phone Store in your home region to see if the app is available there.
Check my Windows Phone Store

Got the Sys App pusher app, is handy, but does not make a difference re the Video trimmer app being available, maybe it does not like the humble L820 at present just for the high roller with 920, 1020, 925 :)

Has anyone got an idea of when GDR2 is likely to be made available by HTC? I've got an 8S on Telecom. I've heard HTC have decided not to release it over in Australia apparently so wondered if that might be the case here too. Cheers.

This afternoon I noticed that the availability on the "Amber" webpage for my version of 720 firmware (Hong Kong English) had changed to "Available", so I forced the phone to do a manual check, and sure enough it said there was an update available, so started the downloading process.  It took about 15 minutes and now my phone has some cool new features.  The most useful ones to me are:

-  FM Radio -- works really well and surprising how sensitive the receiver is!
-  Glance Screen
-  Data Sense

I also had a quick play with the new Smart Shoot app, and it looks like it could be useful on occasion.  I live in hope that the Music Player will no longer lose its list of Artists and Albums when the phone is restarted, but haven't had the chance to test that yet.

nathan: I have a 925 that already ships with GDR2 and heres what I've noticed
...
WAV file voicemail playback
...

Yes indeed.  WAV file playback works on my 720 too, which is very handy for Xnet's voicemail to email service.  Thanks for the tip Nathan!

Just got this update last night and all I can says is: Wow.

FM Radio support - Awesome.
Data Sense - Awesome.
Glance Screen - still working out how it works but looks pretty cool.
Battery drain - Awesome.

Well done Microsoft. This is indeed the update I have been looking for.

HI - updated to Amber Update a few weeks ago for my 720. Everything was working fantastic.

However, plugged phone in to charge overnight, and now has black screen :(

Won't soft reset. Tried multiple times, but no luck.

Eventually contacted Nokia Care (NZ), who have arranged for the return for repairs. Was good to deal with.

I am a little worried that all my txt messages and apps will disappear though as I hadn't set it to backup my messages to Skydrive.

Odd thing is, there are still messages etc coming in, as well as the camera 'sounds' like it is working etc, but just no display available. Really bugs me loosing the phone for god-knows how long, as I love it.

Have removed sim & sd card and put into my old untrustworthy android for the time being. I now remember why I moved away from android!

if you've purchased apps, they are tied to your windows live account.  you can grab a new phone and reinstall them (*) and you wont have to pay again.  not sure if the 'in-app' purchases or photos/text messages will be backed up though with the skydrive option turned off.

Why did you disable the 'cloud backup to skydrive' option?  by default is uses a wifi connection to do the backup and only does it over a mobile connection if you dont connect to any wifi for a week.

(*) without the backup option, you'll have to install each app seperately
