Disappointing that the NZ map is not going to be updated until next year.
Two other contenders worth keeping an eye on are MGMaps which now does not need to download maps over the net and SmartComGps, you can make your own maps with this.

Really, thats AWESOME!!!!

I am so glad to hear that you don't have to download the maps every time you need them on MGMaps.

I'm going to have to have a look at SmartComMaps, it sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for the update.

UPDATE:
The stored maps for MGMaps looks too complicated for me. I can't be bothered changing file extensions and stuff because I might stuff it up.

UPDATE2: I have installed smartcomnavigator, not smartcommaps and all of my New Zealand maps have gone. The ones for the rest of the world are alright but my NZ ones have gone. I have uninstalled navigator and am not going to use it.

Didnt try Smartcom Navigator, only Smartcom GPS and it works perfectly, great app.
MGMaps is a work in progress in that the developer is working on a script to allow downloading of the necessary map tiles and storage so it is not too simple to use at present but when it is all sorted out it should be great as GMaps are highly detailed unlike our present offering from Nokia.
Also, the Smart2Go app is about to move to v1 so watch this space!

I think its better to ask here as well

I have a question regarding downloadineg the maps:

After I downloaded many countries with the Maploader howe can I see that I have them on my N95?
Where can I check what maps I downloaded?

An even better reason not to use Nokia Maps. Mine just always crashes while downloading. 3 times this morning and i've given up.
It takes an hour to download the 5MB maps too which is unacceptable.

To blame? Microscrot .NET, I have not come across anyting YET built on .NET that actually does not crash repeatedly.

Apparrently all Nokias internal stuff is .NET baed, which is probably the reason most Nokia handsets are so incredibly buggy.

My Maploader sw never crashed, I downloaded 100MB maps in one day (I dont say its fast) and never had any problem.

Change your buggy computer and use Ericsson phones for Gods sake instead of whinging about Nokia phones in every thread! :) (no offence btw)

They do work with N95, I'm certain of it now. There are too many different reports from people who are using them (one of the recent purchasers at N95users linked to the ebay place when he got his, so you can see his purchase), in addition to Sandisk saying they work.

EDIT: I may have found a source online that may ship to NZ (most are stipulating US only) - anyone else interested? Don't know price just yet, leave an indicator as to what your price limit is if you're keen. If I can indicate a larger purchase it gives me a little more leverage in negotiating price.

That's right... There is a deleted post just before, where someone was doing a drop of their own Trade Me auction - this person also posted in other discussions, so the posts were deleted and the user spammer banned.

Currently price is $130NZ (shipping included), which I guess isn't terrible compared to Verizon's $130US.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, I am talking about the 4gb micro SDHC card (Sandisk).

Hey everyone,

I just found out that VGPS has been tested and works on the N95, it supports Garmin maps, who I believe have street-level detail maps for New Zealand. Its available from http://vllp.sourceforge.net/vgps/html/index.php

I don't suppose anyone here has the Garmin maps to test out with this?

I looked at the website that you gave and the demo that they offer makes the program that they offer seem really useless. I found it really hard to use.

Have you used the program and how have you found it + what's the route guidance like as I would really like working route guidance?

Thanks, Matt.
