IST: About screenshot:

Thanks for the help guys, really cool :)

There will also likely be a hardware model # on the back of the phone near the bottom in small white text by the fcc id.

Got in touch with HTC yesterday, no help what-so-ever: no way to implement the GDR3 update manually and no way to resolve the incoming SMS timestamp issue manually.

Anyone from Vodafone on here who by chance knows when this update is going live for the HTC 8X?  Cheers guys for the help also, appreciated!

I thought that would work; downloaded the Preview for Devs using a QR code page (NZ app site doesn't feature it), but it didn't let me see the update 3 preview for some reason (when I checked for updates in settings).

Good chance i'm doing it wrong however haha.. any advice on how to get GDR3 preview once I have Preview for Devs installed? :)

IIRC you need be on GDR2 first to get GDR3, let me check

GDR3 wont change your SMS timestamp issue as the problem is not in the WP OS but underneath

i will check on when Voda will release GDR3 for 8X

but since your phone isn't from Voda the Voda release schedule wont matter, but the Telco whereever that phone came from will

Thanks for your replies guys - so just to check.... will the GDR3 from the telco that my phone came from help the issue, or is my phone doomed to a life of sms probs?

Might be a good time to upgrade in the new year if that's the case :(

Hi Nathan, a question if you don't mind; how do I go about getting the update once the telco (wherever my phone was made) puts it out?

Do I need to connect my phone via the internet and somehow acquire it from them.. or will it come through my settings->updates?

I think I mentioned this previously

You dont need a WP update but need to get the radio stack firmware updated in the phone due to the way SMS time stamps work in NZ coming through the carrier SMSC with no timezone

Since your phone was parallel imported it didn't have this in it, hence why you need a ROM flash

NZ sold HTC8X have this already included

It will be delivered over the air

Your phone checks regularly using mobile broadband if you have the setting turned on, then it downloads over Wifi due to the size

Or you can force the check using the settings, update you mentioned above

But as I mentioned GDR3 won't fix your issue since the problem is not in the WP OS

Awesome update mate, appreciate the help!  Will try and hunt down someone/somewhere to get this done, Mobilestation seemed clueless when I called them the other day regarding this.. so will try other avenues (I'm in the Waikato, but in AK regularly so will try around).

Hi Nathan, thought I would ask as I've been hunting around (with no luck); were would one get the radio stack firmware updated?

I'm a bit of a noob on phone software/firmware so be easy on me :) Thanks for your help btw, awesome.

You'll need to get hold of a copy of the Vodafone NZ stock rom (preferably an RUU executable you can extract the rom from) check out xda and some of the HTC firmware repos, otherwise someone on GZ may be able to provide it. After you have that, if flashing it is anything like WP7 you'll need to make yourself a gold card (modified SD card) to apply the update.

I have no way of providing the stock rom but if you are able to get your hands on it then I can walk you through how to install it.

Thanks mate, only one snag though: no SD slot on HTC 8Xs.... can it be applied via USB by chance?

i have sort of a time isue with my windows phones too. occasionally, usually after a full reset to factory settings and i select GMT+12 for auckland, wellington the date and time will still be wrong.

and on christmas day it randomly decided it was july 2012 and i had to manually change it back. shouldnt the phone get the time from the network when its restarted? cause i tried restarting it and that solved nothing.

the factory settings part happened on my htc 8s and my nokia 625, the christmas day part just happened on my nokia since i stopped using the htc before then.
