nathan: correct, not currently

there are many Remote Desktop apps in the Store, both paid and free ones like this http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/mocha-rd-lite/cc7c5630-3c9a-452d-aa10-17a8b599dde6

Do you know if there is a 3rd party ActiveSync SMSSync extension or implementation available?

lyonrouge: Sorry, should have been clearer. I appreciate that they are code wise completely different, I'm reviewing functions and features to see where the MS Mobile roadmap has progressed and where it has regressed from a OotB perspective.

Considerably less stylus support.

I enjoy WP8, but Android was the logical path from Windows Mobile for my use-case. Hoping the gaps that matter most to me - FLAC support, notification centre, a dock, wallpaper on the start screen, & more colour differentiation for the stock apps (Wouldn't say no to opening up the third-party browser space to WebKit as well) - come with 8.1 or 9. I use my mobile device as a stand-alone, self-sufficient computer, which doesn't need a PC for anything, whereas Windows Phone as it stands is not self-sufficient.

Mum rather enjoys the Lumia 920 I gave her, though!

I'm having a problem with music. Synchronising with WMP and some albums come across fine, others come across as separate songs and not grouped by album. I had this with iTunes years ago and have been careful with my metadata ever since. They appear as albums in WMP and iTunes, but when on the phone they break apart?

Edit: Included a screen shot of one of the albums not working in the phone, causes the player to only play one track.

Can anyone tell me what this circle and dot icon mean? It appears occasionally, but not sure what triggers it.

lyonrouge: Artists, Albums, Songs, Applications, you name it, I search for it. in iOS I use the search more often than looking for the icons.

right, that's not currently in WP

You can search for apps by sliding to the right into the all apps view and hitting the search button on top left, or if you have a few apps installed you can click the letter name that's highlighted with a box around it to take you to that letter in the alphabet

Music etc you'd load up the Music+Videos or Xbox Music app and search there

I suspect I have uninstalled "Music+Videos", I'm sure I had two choices when I first turned on the phone, one icon with headphones and another with a musical note icon, can you advise what the latter is called in the store?

EDIT: the headphone icon has text "Music+Videos", while "xbox music" search in the store shows the same icon, I wonder if the one I lost was a Nokia package software?

Xbox Music is a new app released around December I think, so you would've needed to have installed that

For people that have a Xbox Music subscription

That'll be Nokia Music, recently rebranded to Nokia MixRadio, which may not show in the Windows Phone store unless you change your region to US - this due to the streaming feature that isn't available in NZ due to (presumably) licensing issues. If you switch to US, download the app, & switch back, you can continue to receive updates for it. Although it has been a while, it may be available in NZ by default now.

Thanks. Mine is an AU phone some maybe it is still in the firmware, I may have to restore to factory defaults to get it back.

EDIT: MixRadio can be installed but doesn't provide any streaming content. The icon I was looking for is now displaying, but this just goes to the broken player.

lyonrouge: Another disappointment is the Nokia Panorama mode, iPhone (4S in my example) implements this much better.

I'm using Nokia Panaorama (item 8) which is what I'm comparing with the iPhone. The previous items appear to be a reference to taking multiple, separate photos and stitching them together off the phone.

The Nokia Panorama software is similar to the software in the N8, where you move to the next position and it will take another shot, until you stop and then it stitches it together, whereas in the iPhone you pan across, without having to align with the previous frame, making it much easier from a user perspective and the stitched result on the iPhone does not have the edge jaggedness that Nokia Panorama has..
