Is it something I'm doing, or can Windows Phone not play WMV?

WMV is just a container. What's the file been encoded in.

If I'm interpretting this correctly, an older Microsoft format?

Just got a replacement 1020 back from Nokia NZ after original had a hardware fault. I see there are some Nokia/MS pers on this forum so here is my latest glitch:

When restoring my phone settings from backup during setup, I had this (seemingly common) #8000ffff error, where app downloading will stall and cannot be restarted (why don't these things get fixed??):

http://forums.wpcentral.com/nokia-lumia-920/217273-error-code-8000ffff.html

My phone is working well EXCEPT the built-in MS Camera app is not capturing audio with video. I presume it needs an update but HOW to update the built-in apps? I have waited a few days and nothing...

Thoughts anyone?

I believe that the built-in apps are only updated with firmware updates, are you on Amber or Black? (System --> About --> More Info, Black is 3051.40000.1345.1004)

Black. Can you point to some web page to back that up? I know the settings applets etc get regular updates outside firmware...

mmm, good point, I got a camera app update outside of the firmware update, and it told me that some features would not be available until I got black, so that nullifies that one, sorry.

The Nokia Camera app update required the Nokia Black update to support RAW formats. It was not the default MSFT camera app.

is the question about the "Camera" app or the "Nokia Camera" app?

The built in MS app, as I said. Nokia Pro Camera (or whatever it's called now) works fine recording video. So not the end of the world, but I did have shutter button previously set to MS Camera app just for taking quick snaps/videos where full res image not required.

Thx

I'm trying to find out the answer for you. If I was you I'd just use the Nokia Camera app since it is way more powerful with a lot more features. With GDR3/Black you can now even have this launching when you press the camera button when the phone is locked (previously only Camera app could do this) On my Lumias both the Camera app and Nokia Camera app take about the same amount of time to launch.

Neither my Twitter or FB app will rotate into landscape when I want to enter txt, is this correct or just me?  (Both are the official apps)

The music player is still inconceivably hopeless. Broken album grouping, does not resume from where you were, dreadful. I still use my work iPhone normally, but today only had Nokia and was quickly reminded of why I don't use it for music.
