A single volume control is weak. Somehow it's decided to play tracks in a random order?

edit: two arrows pointing up toggle random

lyonrouge: The music player is still inconceivably hopeless. Broken album grouping, does not resume from where you were, dreadful. I still use my work iPhone normally, but today only had Nokia and was quickly reminded of why I don't use it for music.

Album grouping, can explain more?  Is there something amiss with the metadata of the music?  Personally I have no such issue

Resume from where you were, I just tap one of the volume physical keys, which brings up what I was listening to and unpause it

they group fine in iTunes, WMP, Android and Symbian^3, just (some) broken on 1020. I sync it using WMP on Win8.1, I wonder if WMP is going wacky (I'm trying to eat the "same experience on all devices" dog food).

So, a month into living with the 1020 and overall I'm not unhappy with in. There's some minor issues, and there was some learning curve, but it's camera performance is admirable, PDA function is satisfactory and other features are sufficient (the "limited application" issue referenced in other threads has not affected my usage).

I'll give it 7/10.

Here's an example album, same files on iTunes, then on WP8 (copied via WMP) and a reference shot of another artists, where the albums display correctly.

Edit: Included a screen shot of Windows Media Player (Windows 8.1)

The music player in WP8 is absolutely terrible, there is no doubt. UI and inability to reorder playlist being my main gripes. Why they didn't just copy the Android one I don't know.

I looked into writing my own, but soon realised why there are no good apps in the store either: the API is so locked down/lacking that you simply can't write a decent music player.

This is my biggest problem with WP8 overall: the API is way too restrictive. I wrote a GIF viewer app (http://bit.ly/1brqy3Z), and most of the negative reviews/feedback I get are related to features that I simply can't implement due to the many API restrictions.

I am hopeful 8.1 will alleviate some of these restrictions, but I am guessing it will be WP9 before the OS is opened up to any significant degree (if at all), which may be too late for the punters.

Otherwise love my 1020!

Due to possibility of liquid damage, I took my N8 to the 9s on the weekend. It struggled to get data connection (Vodafone) and drained the battery. Took the 1020 on Sunday and it performed beautifully, ticket there.

Note: my Vodafone plan is limited to 3G, so both devices faced the same Data limitation, it was probably worse for the 1020 because there were many more people on the Sunday.

Just returned my 1020 to Nokia NZ (again) due to this fault:

http://forums.wpcentral.com/nokia-lumia-1020/261632-lumia-1020-microphone-issues.html#post2359989

Looks like this is a common one. I assumed at first it was a software fault as I had no audio on MS Camera app, but did work on Nokia Camera app. But in the weekend I realised speakerphone mic also wasn't working, then I found above thread with many other people reporting similar fault.

Still not 100% certain this is hardware, due to number of people with the fault, will be interesting to see what Fonebiz say. Anyone else got this??

<snip screen shots>

So I deleted all music and Windows Media Player Sync settings (Win 8.1 laptop) and just manually copied music folders into the phones Music folder and albums are grouped correctly. I can only guess that WMP (or Windows 8 attempt to converted media) was causing the issue. Not an ideal outcome, but at least I have it working.

Can anyone recommend where would be cheapest to purchase 1020 with warranty? I see Telecom is still selling it for $1099 even though it is nearly a year old...

ps. I bought mine at Harvey Norman in Australia, but I have no idea if Harvey Norman NZ would honour the warranty, pretty unlikely. With Australian tax refund cost me NZD 760.

Just got 8.1 today, I guess that dispels my initial fear of OS abandonment on Win8, it does appear they are dedicated to this one.
