Hi Kev,

I just filled out the contact section on their website. I think the equivalent on the re-branded site is:
http://help.spark.co.nz/app/ask

The reply I got came from telecomsupport@mailsy.custhelp.com, but you are probably better off going for the first link, or they will probably ignore you.

I agree - more people asking for the update has to be a good thing!

The manufacturer does all the testing and vetting before distributing the product to providers such as Spark.

However, Spark also does its own updates to ensure our Spark name is loaded on the app and on the top left corner of your phone.

Unfortunately we are not given release dates, however your phone will notify you about pending updates for your mobile and app's when they are available.

Kind regards,

I used the email the CEO link on the support page and just got a phone call back from a Samsung rep. Apparently ETA is mid September to mid October.

Well,
no update will be released at all from Samsung for Ativ S. This is a fact. They have problems with the hardware of the ATIV S devices and the new 8.1 operating system that they cannot solve.

Having watched Microsoft with patience during these 2 years, and trying out and owning all of their products (windows  phone 7.5, 7.8, 8.0, 8.1, RT) I must say that I was one of those users that was always "hoping" that Microsoft would catch up.
They simply won't.
For 2 years I've seen fiasco after fiasco.
The lack of strategy with partners like Samsung is one more fiasco.
With this lack of interest in actual owners of WP devices and with the new Iphone 6 released, I'm changing all my devices to Apple.
It's a better investment and for sure there will be support for all the devices, new, old...
I would suggest that everyone else does the same. It's just not worth it any investment that we make in such devices from Microsoft.
Microsoft's target is PCs and Laptops. Period. They are also present in the servers world but thats about it.
General Motors does not make PCs so why does Microsoft wants to do mobile devices if they really suck doing it? It doesn't make any sense. And consumers like us are the ones that "believe" and then loose money with these kind of investments.
It's my 2 cents :)

Great feedback.

I'll try to find the official answer but I know that my ATIV-S is running Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview quite happily

I suspect the answer is more to do with the fact Samsung is an Android OEM and has chosen to stop being a Windows Phone OEM, and has basically stopped selling PCs in most markets

I too have email the CEO at Samsung lol, not to mention Spark and the little sisters of the poor for any information

However all that I have read seem to indicate that the ATIV SE was the one with the hardware issue involving the camera hardware

cheers

after emailing the 'CEO' last night from the Samsung support page, a Auckland Samsung rep phoned me today (good service Samsung!)

He confirmed that Windows phone 8.1  is being finalised for rolling out late Sept - Mid Oct worldwide.

So not sure if that means that Spark/Vodafone/2 degrees etc will then need to do their thing or not.

Also Heard back from Spark, after emailing them yesterday however they had nothing to add to the debate

I know that my ativ s is unlocked through 2degrees and would imagine that 2degrees wont have to do anything with the 8.1 update.

Spark replied today 17 Sept

Dear ******

Thank you for contacting Spark. When Windows 8.1 is rolled out you will receive an automatic update on your phone to download. I am unable to give you a time frame currently to when this will be available for the Samsung Ativ S range through Spark.

I emailed Samsung last week and the NZ Samsung rep phoned this morning.

the rollout is still scheduled for late sept to mid Oct. However there were delays due to the number of Microsoft updates further to windows phone 8.1 since its initial release.

As such I do wonder or I suspect they are going to rollout windows phone 8.1 update 1 at the same time.

Cheers

Looks like we might finally see some action:

Getting reports of a rollout to some regions with updated firmware and 8.1.1
