MWF: Hi,

I have done the update (with no problems) to "Almost OEM revision" and phone works fine (GPS etc) apart from Internet. I do not even have 1X data connection...

What do I need to do to get 1X data connection?

To get 1x going.

Go to settings-connections-conetions, then add a new modem connection

Call it what ever you want, using the cellular line.

use '#777' as the number to be dialed.

user name = 'mobile@jamamobile'
password = telecom

finish. select it as the default conection and 1x is up and running.

To get EVDO going you will next to have extracted you evdo password before upgarding. Go to www.ppcgeeks.com and do a search for okta and you should find a thread on it.

cheers

Thanks for your reply. I have tried that but it does not work... After 20 seconds phone comes back with error message "Dialed #777 Unable to connect for unknown reason...."

I made sure that settings are as in your post and phone definetly tries to use connection that I have created...

Any more suggestions to get 1X going?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

So will telecom end up providing a new rom?

Surely someone could email saying it does have gps capabilities, confirmed by loading a different rom onto it.

Its sad that they choose to hide features when it could make it a great selling point.

You need to set it to 1x only

"Yes, I have not been able to get EVDO working, but 1X is fine.... that is why the connection appears flakey (i.e. random). There is a registry setting (HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/HiddenModeOperation = 0) that allows you to access the conenction mode and set it to 1X only. We have not figured out how to get the EVDO password yet.

See http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25226

Post #17 sorts out the1X connection. At least it gives you Internet again, until we find a solution to EVDO"

just got it from a thread on ppcgeeks website. I think you can find it there. but the driver only work with alltel rom. my touch is still window mobile 6.0.

gps is working very well, sometimes it finds 4 to 7 satellite. and I use google map. does anybody know how to get new zealand map somewhere for free?
this is the first time I flash a cdma phone. I really want to get a win6.1 version for my touch. but I don't know how. it is always risky to do it.

before you flash your touch, you need to go to "phone dial screen" , enter "xxxxxx", press "dial", then tap on "edit", and then enter the code "xxxxxxxx".

and then tap on "view info",. select "security", and then write down all of the information there, such as "AUTH USER ID" "AUTHPASSWORD" "PPP USER ID" "PPP Password". because these are the most important things that you need to enter manually after you flash the touch.

now you can go to this website here:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=24979

follow the instruction carefully!

I unlock the touch with the new unlocker, and flashed my touch with the alltel official rom. but the gps didn't work, because the rom didn't activate the gps. but this rom is as stable as my telecom original one.

so I downloaded a gps driver from this website:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25407

and my gps suddenly worked perfectly after that.

I didn't flash the custom made rom, maybe you can try other roms that will activate gps and rev a. it depends on you.

make sure you follow the instruction very carefully. otherwise you will end up with unrecoverable damage to the phone if something goes wrong!!

now I am getting 800 to 1200k download speed when downloading files from rapidshare, the speed remain at 1000k to 1100k consistently. I used to get 500 to 750k before I flash my rom.

I couldn't upload any file to rapidshare because rev 0 upload speed is simply too slow, 80 to 100k. but now I am getting rev a speed, upload to rapidshare is so quick and easy, 250 to 300k, which is even faster than my home broad band upload speed.!

I can say it is worth it for me to risk my phone to get these very essential functions.

i just try to tell you about my experience, cos I know gps and rev a are both very important for all of us touch users. I hope my post will help you a little.

hope you succeed!

My touch is stock "telecom nz" 6.0.

Can I run the Vogue_unlocker_MFG_2.31.exe and then flash away the Alltel rom?

My main concern is the device "phoning home" to the US carriers config or provisioning servers until my battery runs flat.

Maybe i'll pass, as useful as GPS would be it's an expensive brick.

So is the official word on this still that telecom has no plans to officially support it? What about from Okta?

I'm still confused as to why they would leave out a feature that can be such a big selling point.

If you have a stock telecom rom then start with the unlocker, then the Alltel rom, then i chose to install the 'Almost OEM Rev A Sprint rom' because after reading a bit i found out it was pretty close to the Telecom one, can't comment on the Altell rom.

I had one issue with data provisioning, but was resolved by deleting the IOTA folder in /Program Files on the phone.

I've had the Almost OEM rom for about a week now and have since done 2 other phones as well. All are working great and doing a lot more than the stock 6.0. -  WM6.1 Rev A - GPS - a few handy apps included etc   I haven't noticed any change in battery life, which was my biggest concern.  No regrets here.

Just remember to get the HDR username and password and follow ALL the instructions on that guide and you'll be fine.

For Garmin compatible maps a better NZ mapset than the officail Garmin ones can be found here..  http://gwprojects.orconhosting.net.nz/gps/index.html

It's open source contains thousands of POI's and is updated every week or 2, where as the Garmin maps are updated yearly i think.

1. As the posted email on this thread read - Noone from Telecom actually asked the question..

or

2. Because then they would have to support it.

I think dumbing down products is Telecoms forte.

Hmm it is tempting,,,, I'm terrified of getting a brick though as I have done low-level hardware hacks to improve the microphone speech quality (bass improvement) and speaker timbre (same thing) and changed the touchpanel (just removed the top hard mylar sheet to reveal an thin ultra-sensitive undesheet which seems to have stood up rather well considering I use the device so hard i charge the battery twice a day.)

I might look at the "almost" rom. Is that one of the hacks or is it a "carrier" rom? I really want to avoid branded phones! I'd cook a rom like I did for that poor overclocked 1GHz Harrier but this is really heading into no mans land, Harriers are cheap, Touches aren't!

//I’m terrified of getting a brick though

Me too, I did mine to my company phone.  what's more terrifying is when you tell your boss what you've done the next day and then he stands over your shoulder while he makes you do his.  (talk about shakey hands heh)

but yeah, the "Almost" rom is very close to oem Sprint.  It's being discussed here if you want some light reading.

Ok, so I went ahead and did the full changeover to enable the 6.1 features and GPS.  Had no problems with phone at all, even managed to record my EVDO settings so I have that running as well (thanks for the heads up guys).  I can't seem to get the GPS running though. I have tried all of the progams, drivers, settings shown on this forum and ppcgeeks, but still no luck, it is looknig for sattelites, seems to find some but cant get a fix.

I am considering donig a hard reset to see if that helps.  My question is if I do that what will i lose?  I know I will loose my contacts etc, but will it revert back to my org telecom rom or will it go back to the hacked rom as it was first loaded?
