kiwidoc:
For GPS on the Okta I used GPS proxy and Garmin Que. In the GPS proxy I set up a virtual com8 and then set the Que to look for com8 - works just fine. As mentioned ealier in this thread the NZ OPen GPS project has free fully searchable NZ maps. BTW Garmin XT just won't work. Garmin have locked out the GPS proxy method, so that only works with Que. (Free download of that from the Garmin site)
harrylin: I have downloaded and flashed all of the rom. dmj sprint wm 6.1 rom, dmj alltel 6.1 rom, and many others. but I finally flash my okta back to almost rom. I have flashed 7 or 8 times. because dmj rom's download speed is too slow, about 400 or 300kb. but the almost rom download speed can reach 900 to 800. hope this helps.
ZeeBOB: Well, i'm using V3 of the Almost 6.1 ROM and and is by far the best for GPS and normal operating stability. Put togeather with S2U2, FTouchSL and a few other funky add-ons my Okta is only 1 step away from being perfect.
I need my HDR AUTH Username & Password. Still waiting to hear back from Telecom but I also have a contact number for someone from EDS Wireless who are the guys that look after the jamamobile domain here so they MUST be able to tell me or reset my password!
Update to come Monday!
kiwidoc: Hey Mattoktanz.
I'm intigued you got XT working. Whenver I try to get it to rum (with GPS primed) it says 'looking for Garmin GPS device' and scans attached and bluetooth. Then it quits and says 'would you like connect to another device', I hit yes, and it say 'it can only attach to Garmin GPS unit' )or similar.
Which version of XT are you using? I tried com 4 to no avail (An the com 8 set up that worked for Que and also tried com 7 BTUR (Which I assume is the bluetooth channel?)
Thanks
mattoktanz:
I did nothing fancy to get it to go perhaps its your drivers I'm using ones from PPC Geeks (GPSKickStart_&_GPS_drivers_cab.zip)
And its Garmin Mobile XT 4.20.50wp with the NZ OpenSource Maps.. when I go to gps details it says its using the "GPS Intermediate Driver" so I think it talks to that which then talks to the com port.
kiwidoc:
Hmm - still not there. Have run the driversw as per Kickstart link, (thanks for that). I wonder if its because I'm using the 'Almost OEM Sprint ROM' that I flashed after the Alltel rom?
When you open Garmin XT does it go through the 'scanning bluetoth, and scanning attached screen ?"
Thanks
mattoktanz:
No it does not normally. I did notice it scan blue tooth today when gps was shutoff.. known issue (which I think kickstart resolves) is that GPS stops working properly if phone goes into standby. Prime it first with GPS Viewer and waits for lucks to be sure its working, then open Garmin. I have gps on com4, automatically managed. And nothing changed in garmin
mattoktanz: I find my gps locks vary quite a bit and very rarely do I get 20sec locks :/
NEW ROM Released - Sprint have offically launched their new Touch rom which has an updated radio and some PPST settings that improve GPS fixes.
I'm going to flash the new rom and Reset before customizations - Who wants to be the guiena pig who lets the Sprint Customizations run ?

Good luck, let us know how you get on - more importantly if it works the steps you took.
I am currently running the almost OEM rom.
Is there anyhope telecom will release this for the Okta touch?
tonyhughes:
In total, Telecom have released very few ROMs for WM devices. They are not proactive at all.
